Pain

  Kori POV

"Were you two talking about me, Korinne?" The blue woman asked, flexing her knowledge of my life. There was a self-centered attitude in her voice that made me want to punch her.

Felicity didn't flinch. "Who are you?"

The blue woman smiled, "Well, aren’t you daring? I am not human if that's what you are asking. You truly are an interesting little human." She leaned forward to talk to us. "But, I am here for you, Korinne. You have been summoned."

I let out a stupid laugh. There was no way I was going with this woman anywhere. "Okay, let me put this simply. I don't know you. I don't give two shits about you. You can't muscle your way into my life just because you think I owe you something. Go away."

"Aww. The little wolf has some bite to her after all, and here I thought you were just a runner," the blue woman looked hopefully at me. "My name is Kalia, and I am the sky nymph that serves the goddess of the moon.”

Is this woman serious right now? There is no such thing. Perhaps, she is a fanatic of an old religion. Like Greek, Egyptian, or Chinese… I don’t know how she got her skin to turn blue though. Surely, Fe is thinking the same way. I think this woman is just a crazy, beautiful, science experiment in a brown sundress. How did this woman even learn about… "Oww!" Damn it. That birthmark felt like it was on fire. This shit was getting worse…

"Kori!" Fe yelled. “Is it still burning you?”

“Yeah…maybe,” The pain was getting intense. “So, nymph girl, what religion are you a fanatic of?” I crossed my arms trying to keep my pain from showing on my face.

“Fanatic? Interesting choice of words. It’s not a religion for me, but I believe the people of ancient Greece once celebrated Selene, the goddess of the moon, in a religion,” Kalia answered. Her words didn’t falter. This blue woman believed she was a nymph serving the lady of the moon.

Fe suddenly looked like she had a brain blast or something when she said, “Didn’t your ancestors come from Greece, Kori?”

It was like a bucket of cold water was dumped on me. My pain hit a new level that nearly made me speechless. My family was from Greece as Felicity had suggested. There were a lot of coincidences happening right now, but I wanted to believe the blue woman was just a crazy stalker from the internet. I didn’t need some family secret to turn my whole world upside down. Life was hard enough without considering I was somehow connected to an ancient Greek goddess. The burning sensation forced me to start cursing under my breath.

Felicity tried to soothe me, but nothing was helping. What could I do? I tried pouring water over me, but all it did was evaporate when it touched my skin. My best friend looked at me and panicked because we had no control over the situation. “Kori, what can I do?” she questioned.

As much as I wanted to answer, all I could do was groan. The heat began to spread across my body in a painful wave. I couldn’t form words to tell Fe, but I was sure I had a bad fever at this point. Why was my body on fire? Fe freaked out next to me as she tried to touch me only causing herself to burn. This shit was inhuman. Was I like the crazy blue wrecking ball?

“Damn it,” Fe looked like she was going to punch the blue woman. “What’s happening to her?”

The blue woman looked me up and down from the backseat. I could see her wanting to reach out and touch me, but I forced myself forward, hugging the steering wheel. “Well, that was a dramatic reaction, Korinne.”

  “Leave…me…alone,” I grunted out.

Felicity looked desperate at this point, watching me writhe from the pain. “Can you fix this?” Fe asked the woman named Kalia, or so she said. “Can you end her pain?”

“It’s not that complicated, blondie. She just needs to come with me to see Selene. This is happening because your friend is resisting Selene’s call,” Kalia answered with ease.

  “Leave,” I demanded.

“Wait, Kori. We should hear her out. I don’t want to watch you crumble in pain,” Fe interjected.

“Not much to tell, blondie. Selene wants to see your friend. Korinne, here, is a special person because her family was blessed by her. Simple.” Kalia said

  .

“Fe we aren’t listening to this crazy person,” I countered.

“Take us. Let’s go see this moon goddess,” Fe completely ignored me

  .

“Felicity, are you hearing me?” I grabbed her hand to get her to look at me. “I don’t want this. I don’t want to see this alien from the moon. I don’t want you to speak for me. I am saying no.”

“What if this pain kills you because you refuse?” Fe responded angrily.

“What if you were a purple turtle named Bill?” I countered.

“You are in pain. Debilitating pain!” Felicity yelled.

I sighed, trying not to yell. “Fe we are not getting abducted by this blue freak.”

Her hands started flying about in frustration. I thought she might explode for a moment even though I am the one on fire and in pain. She grunted at me before a few tears started falling down her cheeks. “Kori, I can’t help you. I can’t fix this!” She shouted.

“What?” I asked dumbfounded. My best friend was crying over me.

“No policeman, no doctor, no human can help you. This pain you have is getting worse. For lack of any other options, we need to go. We have to.” Felicity said without hesitation. “I don’t want to lose my sister.”

Damn it. Felicity made sense. This shit was supernatural. Some kind of magic was affecting me. The pain was horrible and unrelenting. My forehead was melding with the top of my steering wheel. Felicity was scared. I was her sister since her parents technically adopted me. I guess I need to do this for her. “Fine. Where’s this moon goddess?”
