Omniscient POV
“Selene is finally down to just one candidate left. If this one fails, she will die just like the mortals she spared so many years ago.” A voice laughed looking down into the water below. An image of the mortal arguing with the ethereal moon goddess appeared in the water like a live video feed.
The room had become unbearably hot from the computers, servers, magic, and experiment equipment in the dingy lab. There were no windows or ventilation to let the heat escape. It’s possible that the heat may cause the room to implode or melt one day from built up pressure. Everything looked like a mad scientist lab from a science fiction movie from the lighting to the random frayed wires sparking along the metal tables. Random buttons, levers, and screens decorated the room, yet instead of science, the two figures were relying on ancient magic.

“It seems this mortal is blander than the last,” a second voice commented. The mortal looked like a washed-out version of the moon goddess’ daughter. The prominent Greek features had become muted after so many generations. “There is nothing remarkable about this mortal at all. I wager the mortal will fail on her own without any outside interference.”
The room grew silent. Even the quiet buzzing of electronics had stopped in this serious moment. The two people studied the mortal like the bubbly vision would give them all the information they needed to subdue the mortal. A flash of moonlight magic forced the image to dissipate in the bubbling water.
“Still, I may kill the mortal just to be sure.” The first voice said without any emotion.
“No need to waste power on this mortal. Just let this one play out,” the second voice assured the first.
“Fine. What’s the wager this time?” The first voice acquiesced.
The second voice laughed. “I knew you would see it my way.”
