Chapter 41 - Ape and Tortoise

Chapter 41 - Ape and Tortoise

Entering the reactor, Lucas was in awe despite viewing the scene previously through the spider bot.

“This thing is way more massive than I imagined,” Lucas muttered as he scanned the room.

As he had seen earlier, a massive crack was snaking across the reactor, releasing hazy smog into the air. Lucas vividly felt the surrounding air was literally trying to suffocate him but his constitution was sufficiently strong to shrug the effect off.

Clicking his tongue, Lucas muttered, “If someone weaker came along, they might be strangled to death.”

While he was monologuing, he already prepared several tube-like devices. He then poured the vials of into the devices. Thus, several Experimental Cure Bombs were created.

He looked at the crack in the reactor and sighed, “Here goes nothing.”

With that, he lobbed the bombs into the crack.

As the bombs reached the crack, a clicking noise echoed, before they exploded releasing a cloud of gas.

Some of the gas touched the hazy smog in the air while some streamed into the reactor. As the edges of the two gases met, a hissing sound filled the air, like steam escaping under pressure.

The gases collided and twirled, creating an iridescent fog that shimmered for a brief moment before dissipating into transparency.

While the reactor hummed out loud. The Mophalite core within it released an eye-blinding radiant when it came in contact with the gas.

Lucas hurriedly squinted and shielded his face against the brilliant light.

A few moments later, the light died down. Seeing this, Lucas made his action and approached the reactor's control panel.

“The cure will only temporarily shut down the reactor. But if its schematic is correct, this thing will turn back on in five minutes.”

“Five minutes just to cut off the boss and its mobs’ battery? That's just diabolical. How's anyone going to clear it?”

Flexing his fingers, he sent a streak of his energy into the panel. “Well, let's shut this thing down once and for all.”

As his Psionical Energy wrapped around the control panel and eventually the reactor, the reactor shuddered and trembled before the humming noise within it completely turned silent.

All of a sudden, Lucas heard a furious roar coming outside of the reactor room.

What followed next was a huge crashing noise as Lucas saw the entrance's wall smashed apart by a giant fist.

“Right, there's this guy,” Lucas snickered.

Since he had shut everything in here down, he might as well reuse and repurpose these precious materials.

  ***

  A few minutes earlier.

Dodging another punch from the gorilla, Chloe slashed her sword, tearing the flesh on its arm, but the wound regenerated instantly.

Clicking her tongue in frustration, Chloe mumbled, “No matter how much I cut, it heals itself right away.”

Suddenly, the gorilla turned toward the reactor room and noticed the door wide open. Seeing this, it bellowed and charged toward it.

Chloe narrowed her eyes as she noticed this. “Lucas must have done something,” she muttered.

Without hesitation, she sprinted forward, leaped into the air, and landed on the giant gorilla's back.

She pulled her arms back and lashed them out, and the instant her fists made contact with the beast's broad back, she activated on her arms.

Sharpened rods shot out from her mechanical arms, piercing the gorilla's spine.

An agonizing shockwave rippled through the beast’s lower body, causing its knees to tremble before collapsing briefly. It howled in pain, its muscles spasming involuntarily.

However, in mere moments, the gorilla shook off the pain and stood back up, continuing its charge toward the reactor room.

Reaching the wall, the gorilla raised a massive fist and punched a hole straight through it. Then, clenching both fists, it lifted them high, preparing to slam them down.

Before it could strike, an enormous, thick blue beam erupted from the room, slamming directly into the gorilla’s face.

The beam scorched the beast's features, making it roar in agony.

Stumbling backward, the beast faltered several steps and clutched its smoldering face, smoke still rising from its burnt flesh.

From the reactor room, Lucas emerged, humming a tune to himself. Following close behind was a giant metallic creature.

To be precise, it was a massive tortoise with a long barrel mounted on its back.

Lucas stretched his arm out and shouted, “Kamaciel! Use Hyper Beam!”

Gears and mechanisms within Kamaciel began whirring and releasing steam as the barrel on its back started glowing, charging for another attack.

Kamaciel lowered its body, aiming the barrel at the gorilla. With a blinding flash, another blue beam shot out from the tortoise's back. The beam blasted into the gorilla's chest, sending it skidding backward as its flesh burned away.

Unlike before, the wounds didn’t regenerate. Charred, blackened scars remained where the beam had struck. The gorilla snarled, its movements shifting suddenly. It zigzagged across the battlefield, attempting to close the distance.

But Lucas remained unfazed. He raised his hand and shouted, “Kamaciel! Use Stealth Rock!”

At his command, Kamaciel’s shell hissed as numerous compartments opened. Several metallic spikes shot out, scattering across the ground.

As the gorilla approached, one of the spikes detonated beneath its feet. The explosion sent it tumbling forward, its leg shredded by shrapnel. It tried to rise, but as its hand pressed against the ground, another spike exploded, tearing into its shoulder.

Chloe, still on the sidelines, marveled at Kamaciel’s attacks. “I want a pet tortoise too, Lucas,” she grumbled as she watched the gorilla struggle to retaliate.

Lucas chuckled and shook his head, “This one’s an endangered species. There’s only one Kamaciel in the world.”

The gorilla, now riddled with wounds and burns that refused to heal, bellowed in desperation. In a final ditch effort, it lunged at Kamaciel, intending to destroy the tortoise with sheer brute force.

“Kamaciel, use Protect,” Lucas commanded with a wave of his hand.

Kamaciel lowered its body further, all its steel plating sliding into place to form a reinforced dome.

The gorilla’s fist slammed against Kamaciel’s shell, but the blow glanced off with loud clangs.

  “Finish this,” Lucas ordered.

Kamaciel’s barrel lit up once more, glowing intensely as it charged for another strike.

The gorilla, realizing its imminent doom, attempted to retreat, but its damaged legs gave way. Before it could flee, the beam fired, blasting the gorilla square in the head.

The blast vaporized its head instantly, and its massive frame collapsed to the ground with a heavy tremble, smoke rising from its neck.

As the headless gorilla fell, Kamaciel also sank to the ground. The light around its body dimmed, and the hum of its internal mechanisms softened.

After a few moments, Kamaciel shut down completely, the smell of burnt metal wafting through the air.

Seeing Kamaciel lying motionless, Chloe hurriedly asked, “Lucas! What's going on? Why did it stop moving all of a sudden?!”

“Well, it only has enough energy to support itself for a while,” Lucas shrugged as if Kamaciel's action was within his expectations.
