Chapter 96: Shadow of Seraphel

Starkiller dove straight down after the ice arrow. [Cloud Somersault] flung him off the cloud he had been standing on, and then he kicked off a second bit of water vapour, sending it hurtling straight down toward his target.

He’d traced the arrow back to its source and confirmed it a second later with his [Truth Seeking Eyes]. Now that he knew where to find his opponent, he could launch himself in that direction.

He rocketed straight downwards towards the roof of the KU Library at somewhere around terminal velocity.

Seraphel was an albino drow with white skin and blood-red eyes. His armour was made of pale blue ice, with fur armour underneath. His bow appeared to be carved out of bone instead of wood.

As Seraphel drew another ice arrow, Starkiller pulled the hairpin he kept behind his ear, turning the weapon into a regular quarterstaff and then into its full size: a titanic iron rod seven meters long and as wide as a barrel.

"Say hello to my little friend," Starkiller chuckled as he used Jingu Bang to block the next arrow for a split second before he slammed into the roof of the library. Seraphel lept aside, stashing his bow into a spatial storage and growing two wicked longswords out of his armour of ice.

Starkiller immediately restored his weapon to its quarterstaff size as he turned to attack Seraphel.

"Hello there, now I've been paid to take you off the board. So are you going to come quickly, or do I have to make you scream?" Starkiller asked

The Drow didn’t answer; instead, he launched himself forwards with his twin swords, darting forward like two snakes.

“Kicking and screaming it is then.” Starkiller laughed as he parried Searphel. Jingu Bang easily knocked away Seraphel's attack as the staff outweighed the ice blades by … a lot.

Starkiller swung with Jingu Bang as Seraphel ducked under his swing, his frozen swords cutting into his as he dodged the attack. Starkiller didn't stop his swing; instead, he kept the momentum, using it to swing Jingu Bang around, slamming it into the side of Seraphel and knocking him towards the edge of the roof.

  DING!!!

Starkiller smiled as his threads of mana quickly worked to seal the wound, and his regeneration repaired the damage and recovered his hp. His opponent was using Frost and physical damage. It was a good combo. Though the fact that the Drow was using a poison that also did frost damage was questionable

Starkiller scanned Seraphel. That's when he realized that he was lucky. His opponent had perks to bypass his defences, but these perks weren't working at the moment due to the sheer magnitude of the soul damage the drow had taken.

"You're good," Starkiller praised. "But when I'm done with you, you're going to be lying with your face in the dirt, calling me Daddy."

Starkiller leapt forward. A shocking touch caused yellow lighting to writhe up and down the length of Jingu Bang as he practically teleported into melee range. Seraphel surprised him as the drow dodged his staff and kicked at his head with a sharpened boot of ice. Starkiller jerked his head out of the way as he brought the staff up, knocking Seraphel's foot out of the way and throwing the drow off balance. Starkiller swung the butt of Jingu Bang, trying to hit Seraphel in the ball, but Seraphel's armour contorted, and a dozen spikes of ice shot out.

Starkiller swung Jingu Bang in desperation as he knocked half of the attacks out of the air. The other ice spike slammed into his body and knocked him a dozen feet back.

Starkiller was confused for Second as his HP dipped from the attack, but then he realized that the ice attacks weren't purely frost damage but were also kinetic attacks.

Seraphel launched himself at him. Starkiller swung Jingu Bang down, cracking the rooftop with the impact, but Seraphel leaped into the air and kicked him in the face before launching himself off Starkiller's recoiling body.

Starkiller moved with the momentum, swinging Jingu Bang around. Seraphel blocked the attack, but his ice swords shattered on impact.

"How tha ---" Starkiller was cut off as Seraphel grew a brand new thicker ice sword and then lashed out at him.

Starkiller barely had enough time to raise his staff to block the attack. He tried to attack, but Seraphel didn't let up. Starkiller quickly found himself forced to constantly block as Seraphel kept attacking him over and over again, never letting him, never giving him an inch to maneuver as he pounded away on Jingu Bang. Each clash left a chiming sound echoing across the roof of the library. With every blow, electricity arced between the two weapons.

Starkiller could admit when he bit off a bit more than he could chew. Seraphel was better than him in skill, at least. That just meant he needed to dip into his class's less well-known perks, particularly the [Truth Seeking Eyes Technique].

Beams of Light shot out of Starkiller's golden eyes, slamming Seraphel's face and causing him to stumble. Starkiller spun Jingu Bang around, sweeping Seraphel's feet out from underneath him. Seraphel's armour shot out more spikes of Ice, but this time, Starkiller ignored them.

If it came down to a battle of attrition, then Starkiller was more than willing to bet his life on his class.

Starkiller slammed Jingu Bang into Seraphel's head, then hit him in the chest hard enough to crack a rib as he lasered the Drow in the face. Then, an explosion rocked the building.

Starkiller turned to see what was happening out of reflex, spying on a giant Abbadon fighting a giant blood elemental thing that looked like a vampyre in a kaiju fight. Seraphel didn't waste Starkiller's inattention, kicking his feet out from underneath him and sending him tumbling to the ground. Seraphel kept at him with twin daggers of ice ready to pierce into his heart.

Starkiller immediately dropped Jingu Bang and used [72 Earthly Transformations] to turn into a fly. The daggers slammed into the ground next to him. Starkiller Immediately returned to his human form, slamming his fist into Seraphel's abdomen as he returned to his humanoid form. Then, he transformed into a gorilla, grabbing onto the albino drow and slamming him into the roof of the building. Frost immediately covered his gorilla hands and raced up his arms, forcing Starkiller to cancel the transformation.

Seraphel unleashed a blast of ice magic, knocking him off the roof. Catching himself in midair, Starkiller kicked off the air and launched himself directly at Serephel, activating [Stone Monkey], turning himself into stone. He crashed into Seraphel, smashing him through the roof before he deactivated the skill as he cast a shocking touch. Arcs of electricity shot from his hand, dancing across Seraphel's frozen armour.

  CRUNCH

Apparently, that was when the roof gave up. The roof quickly sagged before breaking, sending the two of them tumbling into the library's top floor.

Seraphel kicked him away. Starkiller tumbled across the library right next to Jingu Bang, and he immediately grabbed it. Turning to face Seraphel, he found the drow with both hands raised.

Starkiller lept at him as a blast of frozen air hit him. Immediately, his entire body iced over, and the ice kept growing out of control. Starkiller was unable to move and became trapped in an iceberg.

  DING!!!

'Silly Fucker,' Starkiller thought, unable to form a grin.

Seraphel was breathing heavily, but the drow was switching out its swords for its bone-white bow. Now that he was trapped, Seraphel could go back out there and attack Tom and the Awoken Myths—not!!

'[Sixth Immortality: Samadhi Fire Tempering]' Starkiller activated, and Samadhi Fire erupted from his body. The iceberg he was trapped in didn't explode so much as evaporate into a steam explosion.

Seraphel was blasted backwards as the iceberg changed to superheated steam. The albino drow's armour melted, and his flesh bubbled as he was slammed into the library wall. For the first time since the battle started, the Albino uttered a sound as he screamed. Anything remotely flammable in the library burst into flames. So everything burst into flames. The stone cracked, and the metals started to melt.

Starkiller smirked as he walked towards Seraphel, completely free from his prison and some of his resources restored from that skill. Seraphel had already re-armoured himself, and an aura of cold spread out from his body. It wouldn't affect him, but it worked to reduce the fires.

Personally, he wasn't in the best of positions. [Sixth Immortality] was one of his four trump cards. Its effects cleansed him of all debuffs and, at max level, restored 25% of all of his resources. Unfortunately, its cooldown now meant he couldn't use it for another 24 hours. It was also his only big attack, and he had to waste it to escape some ice.

Seraphel drew another arrow and pointed it directly at him.

"Seriously, you think that's going to hurt --" Starkiller was cut off as Seraphel shot him.

Starkiller was thrown back as the arrow slammed into him.

  DING!!!

"Okay, you're definitely more of a [Ranger] than a [Warrior]," Starkiller mumbled as he rolled out of the way of the second arrow.

Starkiller blasted Seraphel with his laser eyes as the Albino fired arrows at him. Beams of light and frozen arrows shot back and forth across the burning room. Starkiller grabbed a burning bookcase and shoved it over. The burning bookcase topped over onto Seraphel, forcing the drow to leap out of the way.

"Ugh, this is just an endless tease. Where is the climax?!" Starkiller muttered

Then Seraphel was cleaved in two.

"What the?" Starkiller froze as someone appeared out of thin air with a sword in his hand.

"Skippy, is that beautiful face yours?" Starkiller asked.

"Oh, it's the beta male," Skippy said, rolling his eyes at him.

"Skippy, what the hell?!" Starkiller asked. "You took my playmate away."

"Your fault for taking too long," Skippy said. "Now come on. We need to head out and deal with --"

Then Seraphels body started to glow blue as snowflakes danced around him.

  "[Stone Monkey]"

  "[Nidhogg's Favor]"

Skippy's body glowed gold as green mist wafted off his body while Starkiller froze his body, turning into an indestructible rock, and for the next few seconds, they were both invincible. And then Seraphels body exploded as a hurricane made out of a blizzard ripped through the library. Snowflakes the size of baseballs tried to shred them as the room's temperature dropped to below -200 degrees Celsius. Starkiller was slammed into the walls and the ceiling and tossed through a bookcase. Then he slammed into Skippy. Starkiller quickly found himself tangled up with Skippy as the blizzard died, and they were sent sprawling to the ground.

  DING!!!

"That was annoying," Skippy said as he pulled himself to his feet Starkiller right behind him as both of their skills shut off.

Starkiller had another 15 seconds of invincibility for [Stone Monkey] and another 18 seconds for [Seventh Immortality]. He would need to be careful.

Seraphel stood amidst the frozen destruction. Absently, Starkiller noted they had smashed through another floor and were now in the ruins of the second floor.

"You know that attack wasn't bad, but you should have stayed down because now I get to enjoy wearing down the edge on my sword," Skippy muttered as he shot forwards, Starkiller following after him.

"I know that wasn't supposed to be sexual, but --"

  "Shut up," Skippy spat.

Instantly, a spike of ice shot towards them, forcing them to dodge. Starkiller leapt into the air with [Cloud Sumersault], and then he could see what Seraphel was doing.

  DING!!!

A sculpture of a snow-made Samurai with ice-made arms and armour stood in front of Seraphel.

  "Keep them here," Seraphel stated.

"So it can speak. I was starting to wonder if you mute," Skippy said.

"I don't know. I kinda liked the quiet type," Starkiller chuckled.

Seraphel lept straight upwards, not even acknowledging them as he exited the library.

"Oi, get back here, you coward," Skippy said as he launched himself after him.

The Winter Shogun leaped up to meet his jump. Skippy raised his sword to block the katana. Skippy was knocked down with enough force to crack the floor. Skippy jumped backwards, just the winter shogun slashed at where he was.

Starkiller charged forwards, Jingu Bang whistling through the air as he clashed with the Winter Shogun. The Shogun deflected his staff with its katana, and Starkiller blasted it with more Light beams from his eyes.

The Shogun lept at him, forcing Starkiller to backpedal as the Shogun's sword threatened to bisect him.

  "Aren't you cute?" Starkiller muttered.

"We don't have time for this [Killing Edge], [Perfected Strike]," Skippy said as his sword aimed to cleave the Shogun in two.

The Shogun jerked away from the blade, saving him from being cut in twain, but his arm and a large chunk of his torso were sliced off so cleanly it was almost like it had been melted off with a flame instead of the edge of a sword.

The Shogun turned and tried to slice at Skippy, but he dodged to the side and slashed at the shogun's body. His sword leaving another deep cut as if it were a hot knife through butter. The shogun didn't let up as he kept trying to parry and attack Skippy, but Skippy's movement skills allowed him to dance in and out of range of the shogun's blade as he sliced him to pieces.

He didn't leave Skippy alone as he launched himself at the Shogun, slamming Jingu Bang into its head, lighting arcing from his staff and directly into the Shogun's helmet. Not that it mattered, as the Shogun was technically an [Elemental], not an actual person.

The Shogun rolled out of the way of their next attack, sending bursts of freezing wings at them, forcing them to dodge. Starkiller leapt up and twisted through the air, bringing Jingu Bang around to smack away the shogun's sword as it tried to stab him. Skippy disappeared from mid-air, reappearing behind the Shogun before hacking through one of its legs with another [Perfect Strike]

The Shogun screamed as it fell to the ground, barely able to move. Leaping upwards, he sailed straight out of the hole in the roof as he gathered a spell in his hand. Skippy ran up the walls right behind him as the Shogun roared in impotent rage. Starkiller decided to put it out of its misery.

"THUNDER LANCE!" he called out as he threw down a massive spear made out of lighting.

The lance impacted the Shogun and then exploded, shattering their target into a million pieces.

The two of them shot up and out of the library as they moved after Seraphel. Skippy leapt off of the roof and flew into the air.

"I didn't know you could fly," Starkiller said as he raced along.

  "It's more gliding," Skippy muttered.

The two quickly spotted Seraphel on a nearby roof just as he was running his blade into Luke's heart.
