Chapter 7 A Wood Elf’s Assessment

It is a very disorienting feeling falling asleep at one pce and waking up in a different pce. Nova found it nostalgic for some reason she couldn’t quite put a finger on. Familiar voices became more understandable as the sleep left her brain.

“A pretty wolf-kin scout would be a good addition to our party,” Juniper said.“She is very amicable and intelligent, but we will see how good she is based on a short trial period,” Beornia concluded.

Nova rolled over toward the voices. Her companions were sitting on the far side of the bed. “What’s going on?” Nova asked.

“We are thinking of inviting the wolf-kin to our party, as a scout. She was talking to us before you fell asleep,” Beornia replied.“I don’t know, I think she might forget something important,” Nova said.“We will just have to see then,” Beornia said with finality.

Light came in through the window, illuminating the empty bedroom. It was te enough in the morning that no one else was there. “I slept for a long time,” Nova noted to herself.“You need to focus on using as little magic as possible for each spell. Overcharged spells don’t only exhaust you quicker, but they also attract monsters,” Juniper reprimanded.

“Why does that attract monsters?” Nova asked.“It’s a defense mechanism. If there is an overpowered threat nearby. Monsters will band together to take it out. Rather than getting taken out one by one. That is especially true when using holy magic,” Juniper expined.

  —

In the naos of the temple Sapphire was on her knees saying her prayers. To a god with the phases of the moon across his night sky robes. In his left hand he held a scroll and in his right hand he held a quill with ink on the point. His ears stuck out like daggers under his blue wide brimmed pointy hat.

“Did I keep you waiting long?” Sapphire asked.“No, we just got here,” Nova answered reassuringly.“Do you want to join our party as a scout?” Beornia asked.

“That would be interesting…” Sapphire thought for a moment. Her ears pricked up, and her tail started wagging. “I would love to see the world outside of this city. Let’s go over to the guild right now,” Sapphire said energetically.“That was the pn,” Beornia replied.

Sapphire excitedly led the way to the guild. Nova watched the wolf-girl’s wagging tail with interest the whole way to the guild. Sapphire forcefully pushed the guild’s door open. Hitting an adventurer that was just about to leave. “Hey watch it…” The adventure trailed off as he recognized Sapphire. “...fancy seeing you here hun.”Sapphire walked past him like he didn’t exist.“Hey I’m talking to you!” The adventurer yelled, as he grabbed Sapphire’s arm.

Before Nova could react, Beornia had already twisted the man’s arm behind his back. She threw him out of the guild like he was trash. The padin emphatically wiped her hands together making cpping noises, as she rid the pce of the filth. The man’s party gred at Beornia and Sapphire while they left the guild after the man.

A naked man with bronzed skin, wild short ash gray hair, and long pointy ears that were green at the tips was talking to Sapphire too quiet for Nova to hear. He had a very lean strength about him.

“Phew, wood elves hit different,” Juniper said, fanning themselves. “It’s not like you weren’t scouting ahead with me a few days ago,” The naked elf responded.“Because of you, I didn’t get a front row seat to the orgy,” Juniper responded in mock relief.“You should have been there to mitigate the damage, but no you wanted to flirt with the elf.” Beornia rebuked Juniper.“How would I…” Juniper started saying.“This bickering is pointless,” Nova cut him off.

“You must be Nova. I’m Glyndwr,” The wood elf pced his strangely smooth hand on his chest as he introduced himself. “Allow me to assess your magical ability in private.”Glyndwr’s beautiful masculine voice was very calming to Nova.“I always imagined a wood elf to have a bow,” Nova stated.“Making tools is very unnatural,” Glyndwr responded with disgust. The elf led Nova into the guild's only private room; it was little bigger than a toilet stall.

Glyndwr sat on the ground as if nothing was amiss. Nova leaned against the door feeling like the room was way too small.“My kind aren’t as anti demon as humanity is. I won’t reveal your nature to anyone,” Glyndwr said.“Thank you? Is my disguise that bad?” Nova asked with concern.“Anyone that is proficient at reading magic can see the cursed erotic power that your illusion relies on,” Glyndwr expined. “I will try to be brief, but first use some of that insane amount of holy magic.”Nova grimaced in pain as she created holy chains.

“That is enough. The use of holy magic damages your body. Be careful about doing any of the higher level holy spells. They might destroy your body. Your other two major affinities cursed erotic, and cursed illusion magic you should be able to use with no difficulties. It would be very hard for you to learn magic outside of those schools and you would only be able to cast cursed forms since you use cursed energy to power spells,” Glyndwr finished his assessment.“What is the difference between cursed magic and just magic?” Nova asked.“Cursed magic is more powerful and harder to control, but it has an innate weakness to holy magic,” Glyndwr answered.

The wood elf dismissed Nova from the room. Sapphire was waiting just outside.“I-I wasn’t eavesdropping or anything. Glyndwr will assess me as well,” The blushing wolf-girl said, as she nervously wrung her hands.“Don’t worry you are fine,” Nova put her hands on Sapphire’s shoulders reassuringly.

Sapphire pov,Sapphire nervously entered the cramped room. It felt closer there than in a cave with her whole pack. At least he won’t bme me for any bad weather. She admired his lean muscles, resisting the urge to touch them or bite them. His natural scent was overwhelming the poor wolf-girl. She nervously rocked back and forth trying to distract herself from her instincts.

Glyndwr cleared his throat to get her attention. “Make yourself comfortable.”His p looks very comfortable. Sapphire shook her head. Focus. She tried to sit down, but she lost her footing. Glyndwr’s strong arms caught her. “Calm down,” Glyndwr said, as he petted her head while he rocked her. His voice, and petting soothed the wolf-girl. She closed her eyes, rexing in his warmth.

“Can you dispel your disguise. I want to see your natural form,” Glyndwr said.Sapphire rolled out of Glyndwr’s arms. “No” She responded firmly. “I bear no ill will toward my dark elven cousins, But if you keep the illusion up that is fine,” Glyndwr said.“How did you know I'm half dark elf?” Sapphire asked. “A high affinity for astro magic is only seen in dark elves,” Glyndwr expined. “You don’t need to be too concerned. Very few humans are adept at assessing someone’s magic.”“I see, what are my other affinities?” Sapphire asked, relieved.“Your affinity to illusion is very low. You should be able to lead all rituals associated with the fertility god. You have high affinities with destruction magic. Specifically fire, earth and lightning. I would recommend you go to a magic academy if you are serious about learning magic,” Glyndwr said.

“Tha-thank you for the help. Maybe we could hangout ter?” Sapphire asked hopefully.“We could explore nature sometime. After the monster invasion is cleaned up,” Glyndwr said suggestively. The wood elf cupped Sapphire’s face with his hands. She melted into his touch, as he gave her a peck on her lips. Glendwr left the wolf-girl stunned. He actually kissed me. Before Sapphire could respond, Glyndwr was already out of the guild hall.

“Sapphire, are you okay?” Nova asked with concern etched on her face. Offering the wolf-girl a hug.Sapphire buried her blushing face in Nova’s shoulder.
