Chapter 2: The Dice Has Been Cast, part two (91)

  …

Tanya looked at her father as he sat in his office chair. It had been a year since they had founded a nation here, or rather, in Carne. Right now, he was sitting in his office in the bastion of Carne.

Originally, the city of E-Rantel was going to be the capital of the kingdom her family had made. However, after her other mother had said that the people of E-Rantel would probably lose a lot of moral being in the capital of a kingdom of undead, they moved that pn to Carne.

Aeskell had also said that the city of E-Rantel itself was rather ck luster in terms of defensive power. Tanya herself had to agree. The city walls were circur, with no added areas to thicken the defense of the walls themselves. There were no pces for counter siege weapons, there was no mote, there was no trench line around the castle itself that would defend from attacks that got to the base of the walls.

Not to mention the ck of a true water system. The people in this world had no idea on what made for good, practical designs. Tanya herself could see multiple different ways to enter the city without magic, not to mention if she brought magic into the equation.

She was rather happy that her new family in this life was actually smart, and wouldn’t leave anything to chance. That would be leaving it to luck; and Tanya believed luck is a concept created by the weak to expin their failures.

No, that was a different libertarian. Back to thew matter at hand, magic and her father. Yes, she wished to learn the magic of this world. After all, she had noticed something about her own magic.

It wasn’t there. No, she didn’t mean that the magic that she used wasn’t there, it was that she didn’t remember how to use it. The magic formue that she had spent so long learning to keep herself alive was gone, the magic spells that she had hardcoded into her body were gone. All of it was gone.

So, she wished to learn more about this world’s magic. She had asked her own mother, Albedo, how to do it, she had told her father, Ainz that Tanya herself wanted to learn the arcane arts.

Now, she was looking at him with an expectant gaze. The undead himself didn’t know what to say. After all, he had learned the spells, but not in the same way that the people of this world did.

He looked at her with a slightly nervous eye, not that she could tell. To Tanya, he looked as though he was a manager, sizing up a new recruit to fire on the spot. This of course was the furthest thing from the truth.

“Hm, I do not think you are old enough to learn the arcane arts quite yet,” he said while closing his red eyes and stroking his chin, “You are bot one year old. When you turn, let’s say ten, I shall teach you and take you level grinding.”

Tanya nodded at this. While she didn’t think that this was early enough, she got a definite time frame, and she also got more information on this world itself.

As Ainz was nodding along with her as well, he looked down at the papers on his desk. There was a rather rge stack of them, as this was the beginning of the day and he hadn’t done any yet.

The thought of doing this much paperwork made him sigh out loud and look up at the room around him. The pce itself was nothing to scoff at. After about another year of building the, “Central governance building,” that he, Aeskell, and Albedo would work at was done.

The ceiling was high with wooden and stone lining. The walls themselves also had a wood and pster-like lining to them that he didn’t know how it was made. The floors themselves were simple heated stone floors that looked expensive.

Then a thought came to him. He looked out the window, and gazed across the city proper. The majority of the people living in the bastion city of Carne were now demi-humans. This slightly bothered him as he wanted all the races to coexist in his nation.

It wasn’t even for any moral reasons, maybe it had started out that way in a sense. Though, after some time he realized that he himself didn’t care what others thought of him.

He only cared for what the tomb and his friends would. Of course, they would probably care about the people of this world, so he had to do this to make them proud. That sounded about right.

He looked beyond the city itself though and thought of what E-Rantel thought of him. He had heard the reports, of course, but not the actual thoughts and feelings of the people. Maybe he could take Tanya out for some father daughter bonding? Yes, that was a good idea.

He looked to Tanya and asked her.

“Tanya, I was pnning to visit E-Rantel after my work is done for the day. Do you want to come with?” the father asked the daughter.

Tanya looked on with sparkling eyes as soon as she heard that. She herself had wanted to visit the city itself. While Erika had seen it, she hadn’t had the chance to as of yet. This was because she had mainly spent all her time figuring out the ways of the tomb, in case she was ever betrayed and needed to hide.

It was then that a knock was heard at the door. The maid on duty, Fifth. She walked over to the rather rge door and peeked to see who it was. After a beat, she turned around and stated the names of the people entering.

“Lady Albedo and the elder liches are here for today’s workload, my lord,” she said as she opened the door, and the NPCs entered the room.

“My love, I am here to start the day,” albedo said to Ainz, then turned to Tanya, “and hello my little sweety pie!” Albedo then gushed at her only daughter and grabbed her in her arms.

Tanya tried and failed to get away, after all, she was a mere toddler, and Albedo was a level one hundred NPC built like a tank. There was no comparison.

“Good morning, Albedo, I have decided to take Tanya out for an afternoon walk after I am finished with work. Would be joining us, or would you be too busy with other duties?” he asked, hoping that she was too busy.

Then he remembered that talk of magic.

“Ah yes, before I forget I have decided to start teaching Tanya magic when she reaches ten,” he said while leaning forward with genuine interest in her opinion, “would that be fine with you?” he asked.

Albedo simply nodded at this while hugging her child in her arms. Albedo was fine with Tanya learning magic at that age. In all honesty, she felt like she could learn right now, but that was a discussion for another time.

“Yes, I am fine with her learning magic at that time period. Maybe we could teach the other children when they reach that age?” she asked him right back, and Ainz leaned back in his chair, slightly scared and interested in his own children’s future, “also, I am busy ter this day. So, I will be unable to accompany you, my love,” Albedo finished off with a somewhat mournful line.
