The medallion in my hand was the one I was given after first entering the sect; more specifically, it was the one given to me with my robes and rule book. This one was not as fancy as the one that my mother had given me, and it did not contain any of that strange energy mass either. However, it should be enough when combined with my name to let her in when I am not there. So long as the one who meets her knows of me. But it was honestly unlikely that she would meet someone who did not know me at this point, given the massive shrine in the middle of the sect's town. Regardless, the offer was still there, and as long as she took the medallion, she would have access to the sect and my, albeit barren, mountain.
Lou Xia, on the side, was sitting there stunned for the moment, while Lanalia was staring at the medallion in my hand. Her gaze eventually moved up to look into my eyes for a few seconds as if searching for something before she shakily reached her hand out and grabbed the medallion. With that, I smiled and said, “ Make sure to mention that it was Varia Lockheart who sent you to the sect whenever someone asks you.”
Lanalia paused for a millisecond after hearing what I said before nodding her head enthusiastically. I was fairly sure that i could even see tears forming at the corners of her eyes. She then paused again and looked at me for a few more seconds, clearly trying to build up some amount of courage, and then asked me, “Why?”
I was confused by this single-word question, as we had been talking about a lot of things, and I was not sure what she was asking about. Tilting my head slightly with my lower ear going ft, I asked her, “Why what?”
She sat there for a few more moments, looking at my ears that were slightly twitching now before regaining her composure and asking, “Why are you giving me this?”
That was all the crification I needed to understand what she was talking about. It was also something that I did not see much reason to expin, so I simply said, “Because I need more people like you. Now about that lightning storage system you were talking about…”
WIth my refocusing on our earlier topic, I watched as she paused again and then started conversing with me about more theories and topics.
This went on for about another hour before the carriage we were in stopped. It was not something we were expecting, but we did not pay much attention to it and continued our conversation. At least that was until we started to hear some shouting from outside.
With that, I leaned over to the side of the carriage and slightly lifted one of the curtains covering a window. That was when I saw the multiple fur and leather-cd men wielding simple weapons and looking fairly disheveled as if they had not washed or taken care of themselves in months. If the depictions from all of those video games that I used to py are correct, then I already know what this group of people is. It was then that one of the men looked my way and saw me in the carriage.
Something passed through his eyes that I was fairly certain I did not want to know, but could already guess, and it was enough for me to want to purge his existence from this earth. In fact, given how they were threatening our group of travelers, I think I will do just that. This of course mean that I need to grab my bow, take stock of my ammunition, and secure my sword to my waist. Two of those things I had already done, and I chose to forgo pulling my sword out of my inventory as I could grab it with a thought if I needed to.
Lou Xia clearly saw what I was doing as well, but she was not able to stop me in time, as I had already opened the door of the carriage and started firing. It was not even that difficult, as I seemed to be ambushing them from the carriage.
The first two went down with surprising ease, almost as if they did not expect to actually fight someone. Of course, I was firing my bow at full speed while pulling arrows out of my inventory instead of needing to pull them from a quiver. I also did not forget to add something extra to the two projectiles.
The screams of pain and the smell of searing flesh seemed to shock the rest of them, allowing me to get three more shots off. This dropped the enemy numbers from around twenty-five to about twenty, which evened the odds. Though I would also have to take out the Edman and Lanalia from this, so we only had about eighteen people left, but I still liked those odds.
It was around this point that everyone finally started to figure out what happened, and the bandits rushed towards the caravan. This still left plenty of time to snipe a few more of them before they got engaged with our people in close combat. At least that was my thought until a few of the guards pulled off the covers on the front and rear wagons, revealing two loaded ballistae ready to fire.
With how close the bandits were, they would not be able to get more than one shot off before it was to te, but that should be enough to take out some of the higher ranked combatents. It was also at thispoint that I realized I forgot to check their levels as well. However, that did not mater anymore as the fight was already under way.
Though one thing I should do now that I remembered it was to change my vision to see all the Qi around me. It was not that hard either, as I had already entered the state just by thinking about it. This is such a useful technique.
