Veric was lying in his bed reading all of the notifications he has received after finishing the Trail of Tears. It was late at night, only faint moonlight and the golden light of the scroll were illuminating his bedroom.
He was alone in his room, Dara left in the evening. Because she had a husband, she didn’t have her quarters in the castle and staying overnight in her master’s quarters would be beyond inappropriate.
‘Well, that is a ton of information to digest. All seem to be good news. Which doesn’t excuse Rigon’s behaviour. Attempted murder is still attempted murder. The amount of pain I went through to achieve this was well worth it though. Out of all of the Classes available the [Nessari Arcanist] seems the best. I don’t want to have any more shortcomings other than my body. Though it would be interesting to test the [Neophyte Cryomancer] or the [Neophyte Wizard] with the scroll.’ He thought and looked at the pieces of the scroll scattered all over the floor.
‘That ship has sailed.’ He thought and opened his [Status] window before making the final decision.
‘The only unexpected change is that my race has changed to Nessari from human(Nessari). I wonder whether I look different?’ He dismissed the thought for now and pressed the [Nessari Arcanist] option on the Scroll.
‘Goodbye 2 points of constitution and vitality.’ he thought and pressed “Yes”. Instantly all of the system windows turned off, nothing happened other than feeling a bit warm in his chest. He closed his eye and tried using [Minor Mana sense]. Instantly, he could feel a huge influx of mana rushing into his chest. It felt like being a vacuum at the bottom of the ocean. Hundreds of units of mana per second were being attracted to him.
‘Wow’ was the only thing he could think of to describe the phenomenon at that moment. Mana was coming from every direction. However, it was not uniform. A lot more mana was coming from the ground than from above him. The process stopped after one minute but with each second the flow of mana was becoming clearer to him.

“Wow. I think I just condensed a mana core and while trying to understand what was happening I even levelled up.” He said and opened his [Status].
“That is so much mana and it is regenerating so quickly too. Almost 3 units per second. Let’s try it out.” He said and pointed his hand at the middle of the room. He used [Minor Mana Manipulation] and a slow wave of mana started to leave his hand. It was completely colourless yet Veric could feel it. After travelling about twenty centimetres he lost a connection with it.
He jumped off the bed and collected all of the pieces of the scroll. He placed them in a pile on the table. He pointed his hand at the pile and fired a wave of mana at it. The mana pushed the scraps of silk a few centimetres with ease which made him giddy with excitement, he felt like a child that found a new toy again.
The casting took about eight seconds, once mana left his core it travelled very slowly through his body. Once outside of his body he could control the speed of the wave to an extent.
‘Hmm, interesting. The mana seems to be slowing down while it’s inside of my body, slowing down my casting speed. I wonder whether increasing [Minor Mana Manipulation] will solve that problem.’ He thought and created the mana wave again.
“Am I being watched? Does the system know exactly how I use each spell? It would make sense considering there are specific conditions for unlocking certain classes. I wonder whether the target of the spell can also be a factor in gaining a class then?”
He pointed his hand at the paper and tried using the new spell. It felt awkward to use. The mana seemed to flow out of him automatically. As if he lost control over the small chunk of mana for a few seconds. The small wave of mana escaped his hand in the same way that it did before and collided with the paper moving it a few centimetres, like the gentlest gust of wind. ‘Hmm, so I can also cast spells through the system. But it feels so awkward. I don’t think I will be using that often.’
He pointed his hand at the paper again cast the spell manually. He was able to gather and control more mana this time however the casting speed was not reduced by much it felt around the same. The mana wave that left his hand was at least twice as powerful as the previous one, the papers flew around as if they were pushed by a gust of wind.
Veric stroked his chin and decided to continue. He repeated the spell four more times and two notifications appeared once again.
"Hmmm, it seems that if strengthen the spell by using more mana. It will reach an evolved version. But will the weaker version remain?" He said and opened his [Status] To check and noticed that both of them were present.
"I wonder what else I can do with pure mana?" He said and tried casting with both hands. The process required more mental fortitude but due to passive skills, multitasking was quite easy. Mana travelled through both of his arms and Veric released two weaker mana waves from each hand however, the distance they travelled didn't diminish.
"So there seems a limit to how much mana I can release at once, I gander that currently, it is about 20 or 25 at most. What about finer control? I remember the mana becoming condensed and forming a ball when I was using the scroll. I wonder if I will be able to do that?"
He lifted his hands with the palms facing each other and started to cast [Mild Mana Push] from each hand. Once the mana collided it cancelled out each other's force and started to coalesce creating a mana blob. Because the blob was so close to his body he seemed to be able to control it to a lesser extent.
He made sure to release mana slowly and suspected that he needed more than 25 units to create a proper sphere. After two minutes his hands started shaking due to low strength and dexterity. The mana became unstable and instead of cancelling each other out, the two forces became violent which caused him to panic. He pushed the blob of violent mana away from himself and caused the mana to create a small horizontal tornado that made the pieces of the scroll fly around the room.
"Happy little accidents are still accidents. I think I had enough tinkering for today." He said and his eyes fell upon the tray of roasted chicken and potatoes Dara left for him before she left. They were cold but still a lot better than the tasteless porridge he had for breakfast. After finishing the meal he plopped onto the bed and before his head made proper contact with the pillow he was asleep.
