“Anything meow?”
Upon hearing Bubai's inquiry, Miss Meow nodded a couple of times. "Meow ears heard a meow meow interesting argument yesterday!"
"Oh?" Bubai played with the cat’s interesting ears, prodding her to continue.
With her feline features animatedly reflecting her emotions, Miss Meow waved her paws and recounted, "Meow was sitting on the roof, enjoying fishie when owner's new disciple came to visit."
New disciple? The Long Batian guy?
Bubai’s curiosity was piqued. “And then?”
Taking a moment to swallow back some drool, Miss Meow continued, "When Ben Meow finished meow fishie, Meow saw the new disciple marching out and giving meow an angry stare. Meow did nothing, what's he staring at meow for?"
Wrinkling her nose, she added, "So, meow threw fish bone at him, and the bad guy wanted to hit meow, but owner stepped out and made bad guy kneel like a good meow."
She finished with hands of her hips, puffing her chest as if proud of what she had done.
Hmm… Bubai mulled over her words.
Seems like the new disciple had an argument or disagreement with Elder Mo?
Honestly, not too smart. But considering the guy’s arrogance, even so silly to come up to him to openly declare himself as his enemy, it wasn’t too surprising.
Seriously, Bubai had no clue why the old fritter accepted that foolish guy as a disciple, but them having a split is a good thing for him. Maybe he can even use this further…
Holding onto this thought, Bubai tried to dig deeper, "Does Xiao Mao happen to know what they are disagreeing about?"
Miss Meow's cat ears twitched at his words, and she tilted her head in thought. "Meow remembers… the bad guy asked owner for someone, but owner say nya, so bad guy angry."
"Who?" Bubai pressed, his curiosity growing.
"Meow nya know. But it’s nya Ben Meow. Owner says someone from the old stinky stallion.” Miss Meow nodded as if confirming her own memory was right.
"Old stinky stallion?” Bubai furrowed his brows, “Who's that?"
Miss Meow tilted her head innocently. "Old stinky stallion is old stinky stallion?”
Okay. Seems this cat woman is stuck with nicknames like usual.
But “Old Stallion”… if Bubai had to guess, could it be the old geezer Ma Pei?
Though unconfirmed, it seemed like a lead. It was a plausible explanation for why Elder Mo’s fire was kindled.
Well, most elders would probably get angry if their own disciple sets eyes on a woman that belongs to another elder.
That’s just a recipe for disaster, even more so in this case because that old geezer Ma Pei certainly didn’t look the type that likes sharing, but rather the type that does the taking.
Though Ma Pei and Mo Badao were both golden core elders of the Mo Faction, it didn’t mean they were willing to pass women back and forth like clothes. Even if they were…
Well, it doesn’t matter. That’s just the Long Batian guy seeking death and it has nothing to do with him, Mo Bubai.
If anything, it’s better if that guy clashes with the old geezer because that’ll be one less headache on Bubai’s own bingo book and he won’t even have to lift a finger.
As for whether that Long Batian guy will be stupid enough to actually stir up trouble…
Recalling his own encounter with that arrogant prick, Bubai couldn't help but chuckle.
Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
That guy truthfully seemed utterly convinced of his own superiority and didn’t look the type that would bow down so easily.
Oh Merlin, it’ll be fun to see how long he lasts. He just needs to sit back and keep tabs on this drama through the cat spy.
Shelving this intriguing show to the back of his mind, Bubai commended the cat woman with a fond head pats.
“Good job, Xiao Mao. Help me keep your ears open if there's any change with that bad guy, alright?"
Miss Meow nodded enthusiastically to the rhythm of his petting, confidently patting her chest with her paw. "Just leave it to Ben Meow!"
Pleased with her response, Bubai attempted to wheedle out some more, "Is there anything else interesting?"
Miss Meow placed her paws on her temples as if trying to gather her thoughts, before ultimately shaking her head. "Nya more.”
Innocent cat face.jpg was presented to him, but Bubai was sure there were more tidbits happening within the Mo Clan that were worthy of his knowledge.
However, they were likely either something that the cat didn’t pay attention to or simply couldn’t divulge.
She was a smart cat, after all.
Regardless, between these gossip and the five spirit stones he acquired from the intel he deliberately leaked, it was enough to accomplish his agenda this time.
So now, it was time to reward his spy for her hard work.
The innocent cat’s eyes followed him when he stood up.
Reaching down, Bubai’s hand rubbed the cat woman’s lips, brushing over her canine teeth, "Do you know what time it is?"
Miss Meow's face lit up, nodding incessantly, “Meow! Yummy fish time!”
Seeing her cat eyes locked hungrily on the tip of her favorite milk bottle, a knowing smirk crept onto Bubai’s face. “Go ahead. Xiao Mao, you know what to do.”
The starving pet wasted no time and eagerly pounced forward. “Itadakimeow!”
Oh Merlin... What followed next was certainly a very, very interesting biology research project, to say the least...
After investing a considerable amount of research funds here, Bubai contentedly patted his waist and left for home, feeling thoroughly fired up to conduct even more research.
Tower. Dungeon.
Standing in the walkway with iron bars lining both sides, Bubai aimed his finger gun at the target hanging at the far end of the prison.
Buzz~ Buzz~ Buzz~
The burgeoning power of lightning crackled at his fingertips like a wild beast being reined in by a strongman.
Concentrating, Bubai drew upon even more of his Qi, molding them into lightning attribute and willing them to charge his makeshift rail gun.
The latent energy continued to build up… the searing arcs of lightning multiplying, spreading from his hands and along his outstretched arm…
Feeling he couldn’t hold back anymore, Bubai’s eyes sharpened like a hawk, his lips delivering his command through the curtain of electrifying energy, “Bang.”
Zap! Lightning instantly erupted from his fingertips!
The recoil jerked his arm upward, forcing Bubai to stagger back a step as the crackling bolt shot forth!
His sharp eyes chased after the streak of thunder, erratically zigzagging back and forth through the bars, eventually slamming into the wall where the target was hung!
“Hoo…” Bubai felt the numbness in his arms and saw the smoke wisping from his singed fingertips.
Relaxing his hand, Bubai surveyed the scorch mark on the wall that was just shy from the hanging target’s edge and could only sigh, "Looks like I'll need more practice and plan well if I want to hit any cultivator with this.”
The lightning generated from the Lightning Crusher spell was indeed fast, almost zapping the target in the blink of an eye. So, speed wasn’t a problem.
Instead, it was range, power, and accuracy. To increase these, the charging time was not only lengthy, but also dangerous.
After all his practice thus far, it’s fairly easy to pour a little energy into the spell, but when he tries adds too much, he teetered on the edge between control and chaos.
The more Qi, the more his control slackens, and if he fails to control the surge of power at the tip of his fingers…
Spells losing control and backfiring were an ever-present risk for any cultivator. Letting Qi spiral into unrestrained fury could damage the body and even the meridians.
This danger factor only increases for the usage of destructive spells like the Lightning Crusher technique.
The consequences of cooking oneself with lightning need not be mentioned.
Merlin, if not for his special physique’s recovery capabilities, his arm would have long turned into charred flesh after all the reckless practice he had underwent thus far!
“Well, no pain, no gain, right?” Bubai brushed off another layer of black powder partially caking his arm, letting him see his skin layer, still as fair as ever.
Looking down, the ashen remnants still littering the ground below was evidence of the suffering he went through just to give his mastery of the spell a hard push!
Thanks to this push, his mastery of the Lightning Crusher technique should have a solid foundation in the initiation stage, if not reaching the novice stage!
Now, his aim might be a bit off, but he could actually cast the spell to hit his intended range without the assistance of both spiritual and divine sense! This was already a small victory in itself!
Taking heart in the progress made, Bubai threw a glance over at the bars to see all the electric current had grounded.
"Should be enough for today.”
He didn’t want to overexert his incessant healing factor, lest he incurs hidden injuries. Now that would not be conductive to his electrifying training; pun not intended.
Shaking off the lingering numbness in his arm, Bubai flexed his fingers and walked into the adjacent cell.
Arriving before the cluttered table, strewn with the dried parchments of his half-finished experiments, Bubai sifted through the disarray until his gaze settled on a particular report.
The experimental log on his mysterious green Qi’s effects.
Lifting the document, Bubai read over the findings once more, a grim shadow plaguing his face.
