The Demon of the Night

  Brock

I gasped awake. I felt my chest and felt my heart beating, oh good for a second I thought that I would die to that creature. That training had been awful! My trainer had put me up against all kinds of giant creatures, to wrestle and fight them to prove my strength to him.

Even though I had taken down over 50 creatures, he had still not been satisfied with me. Saying “A giant fights his foes with such overwhelming strength that they never believe they even have a chance. However some of your fights were pretty close calls, that didn’t leave the impression of an “Overwhelming” amount of strength.”

I didn’t believe him. Even though it had been close on a couple of occasions, I had still won every match and had learned a lot about how to fight with my personal strength. He had also taught me the ultimate workout routine to help me bulk up.

I stood up and glanced around. Kent and Layton were still in training. I had started a couple of minutes before them. I turned and looked over to see that Drake, Minya and Emily were fighting off a wave of goblins.

I watched as they easily dispatched each of the creatures with poise and grace. Emily was casting healing spells so our team didn’t get any injuries. Not that they needed it. They almost never got hurt, even though there were over 3 dozen goblins still remaining.

Drake suddenly blasted off of the ground in a burst of blood and he chopped off the heads of a half dozen goblins in one swipe. Minya teleported with a clap of thunder and sliced her daggers into the closest goblins, killing them almost instantly.

I watched with an amused smile on my face. These goblins were no match at all to our current strength. Even if there were over a couple hundred of them we would be able to deal with them, no problem.

Minya, Drake and Emily were just starting to finish off all of the goblins when Kent woke up. “Woah.” He breathed, “I didn’t know that we would be able to learn that much from just a 6 hour training session.”

I nodded, smiling at him. “I know right? Those creatures were something else. And my teacher was crazy powerful just by himself.” I told him about my teacher and what he had put me through.

  He laughed at me.

I was confused and slightly mad. “Why are you making fun of me?” I suddenly said dangerously. “Do you think I’m weak for being unable to fight against a ton of monsters?” I said, I was mad at him.

He waved me off. “No! Nothing like that! I just think it’s hillarious that you, the rough and tough soldier dude. Is complaining to me, of all people.

I calmed myself. I knew that I had a horrible temper, it just didn’t come up on your normal day, but the past few days have most definitely not been normal at all. Just the opposite in fact, it's the apocalypse.

Layton finally started to stir as well. “Good, now that you are up we can go and talk to the others, they won’t have to much trouble with the goblins anyways.” I told both of them offering my hand to Layton and helped her up.

We all sauntered over to the wall and watched as Drake and Minya finished off the last of the goblins. “Hey!” I called out. “You guys seemed to have benifited greatly from the training!” I yelled out waving at them.

Drake smirked and waved back. “Yes we have! And we are ready for the challenge of the night! We want to test ourselves, how about you?” He asked me, grinning happily at me.

I grinned with him. “Count me in for sure! I want to pulvirize those stupid night monsters. They have already been to troublesome to let live.” I responded, still grinning like an idiot.

Layton sighed. “Once you 2 are done grinning at each other like the idiots you are, can we prepare a battle plan? We need to be at least slightly ready for the monsters of the night.” She pointed out.

I just smiled sheepishly. “Don’t worry, I will carry us through. We don’t need a plan when I am on your team.” I said, flashing a smirk at all of my team members. “After all, I am the strongest one here.” I reminded them.

They all just glared at me and I backed off, if they didn’t want help from me, an all powerful giant, I would just have to accept that. Not all humans understood the power of giants after all. Otherwise they would be begging me to destroy all the wicked fiends of the night that plagued us.

Minya spoke up. “Okay, we have less than an hour until the sun sets, we need to have a plan of action. Here is what I am thinking. If we have Emily and Layton together, Layton can take enemies down from a range and Emily can heal us if she hears or sees us get wounded. Me and Drake work together well, but I think that if we put Kent and Drake together it would be a far more dangerous team. Me and Brock will go together.”

“We will all take one third of the walls, but if another team needs it we should try to send help to them. Also, should we act as one big party or 3 smaller parties?” She asked us.

I thought about it then shrugged. “Doesn’t really make a difference to me.” I told all of them.

Kent looked deep in thought before suddenly snapping out of it. “We should all operate as one big party. That way, we can all stay around the same level and we can all continue to grow together. It is simply the better choice.” Kent said, offering his opinion.

Drake nodded. “I agree, it is best that we all stay around the same level so that we don’t become useless because of one person in our team taking all of the kills. Not that I expect that to happen, it's just a possibility, it might even happen by accident. So it is best to stay as one big group.” He finished, showing us what he thought of the matter.

Minya nodded. “Okay now that we have that figured out we should all go to our respective walls. Brock hurry up.” She called out, already walking away.

Me and Minya walked over to our area and chatted for a bit about our training. Apparently, she had been instructed by a bird who had taken on a human form. It had taught her how to harness her thunder more efficiently and did some exercise with her to strengthen her lower legs, telling her this was the best training routine for her.

As we were chatting night started to fall and the forest started to echo with howls and shrieks of monsters that ruled the night. I stood up glaring into the woods. I would show them that their confidence was misplaced. I was their ruler now, and I decreed that they would all have to die. Both me and Minya watched as a huge beast crashed through the forest coming to a halt at the tree line.

When it saw us its eyes narrowed and it glared at us letting out a roar of disapproval. Its body was like a wolfs but with fox like aspects. It was over 6 feet tall vertically on its 4 paws, but from front to back it was around 13 feet long. I gulped as its red eyes locked onto mine. I quickly scanned it.
