Episode 27

"Lord Eru must have made a deal with the Giants of the lower levels," says Amator putting himself in front of us.

Several giants head towards us, but then Voolkana appears and gets rid of them by sending them flying.

“That Bastard!” Voolkana screams as she fights and then looks at us. “Get the hell out of here, we will stop them.”

I want to stay and fight. But I cannot move my arms and my body trembles as I try to stand up.

Lobo arrives, and Amator puts me on him. The Elder Brother moves once again and uses his hands to hold us and make us a path to the lower levels.

The Dorados and the lower-tier giants try to stop us as we go down, but the younger brother acts as a shield with his sphere-like form.

With their help, we reach the last level. The brothers make it so the Dorados don't follow us and the last thing I know is that we manage to escape and run back to the Lobos Rojos Forest.

When I wake up, I'm enveloped by the somber colors of Aurora's room. Hoomul is sleeping at the end of the bed in his child form.

"I hope this doesn't become a habit," Jasmine's voice startles me as she enters the room.

  "Jasmine! You're back already?"

"Yeah, the clan's methods are very effective, so he's almost completely recovered. I had returned to my business in the city when I received news of what happened."

"I see. Sorry for the trouble."

"Don't worry about it. But you should have seen how insistent Hoomul was about helping you. You must have done something very important for him; he doesn't let many people see his true form, especially when sleeping."

"I'm not even sure what I did exactly."

"I don't know the details, but Amator told me that Hoomul in the past wasn't able to control his Herencia. That's why he ran away and eventually met Aleifr. Maybe it was related to that?"

"I see," I say, touching the scars on my arms.

"You should take the day to rest. My Herencia doesn't heal the fatigue of your muscles."

  "Thank you very much, Jasmine."

Jasmine smiles at me and leaves. After a while, Hoomul wakes up.

"You're awake!" Hoomul says with a wide grin, still with a bit of drool hanging from his mouth.

"Thank you for taking care of me while I was unconscious."

  "Don't mention it!"

Hoomul falls silent for a few seconds and then extends his arm, showing me the mark on his wrist.

  "What are you doing?"

"Jasmine told me about it. She says you can copy other people's Herencias."

"Do you want me to copy your Herencia? Are you sure? She must have told you that I'll see your most painful memory.”

"Don't worry about it. Besides, who wouldn't want my incredible power!" he says, flexing one of his little arms.

I look at him and know he is serious. I think about what Jasmine told me about him, and I can avoid feel curious. Wanting to know that someone else has go through something similar to me.

"Alright," I say before touching his mark. I feel electricity running through my body, and the images assail me.

I find myself on the plateau again. Other giant children are playing. I approach them and can't help but notice the towering height difference, double or triple.

"Can I play with you? I promise I'll be fun!" I say with a big smile, putting my arms triumphantly at my sides.

They burst into laughter, and one of the children pushes me while another stands behind me and makes me fall painfully. When I try to get up, they throw dirt at me.

“We don't want to play with a Dwarf!”

The anger consumes me. I just wanted to play. With tears in my eyes, I run to my aunt's house and head back to the upper level.

I climb the stairs until I reach the top of the plateau and reach the camp of the Brothers. My aunt and Boolean are eating. I sit around the fire and hurry to eat, avoiding eye contact.

"Hey, kid, what are those bruises? Did you fall again?"

  "Y-yes."

"Oh? What's with that response? Don’t tell me you let yourself be beaten up. But well, it wouldn't surprise me, after all, you're my brother's son. Like him, you are a weakling," she says, laughing.

I clench my fists, and my face burns.

"Don't talk about my parents like that!"

"And what will you do if I do? Don't get your hopes up. When you can beat me in a trial, I'll listen to you. But I doubt you can with those noodle arms."

Anger starts to invade me. Why are all of them like this? Why they don’t hesitate to use harsh words? I try to squash the emotions, but this time I don't want to. I clench my fist, and in an explosion my arm grows and hits my aunt, sending her flying a few meters away.

I stand there, trying to understand what just happened. I hope she gets up, but she doesn't.

"What have I done?" I say as I start to tremble.

A shiver runs down my spine. Knowing my aunt, she won't let it go and will do everything possible to return the humiliation threefold. Then I realize that my only option is to run away.

Thankfully Boolean was already asleep when this happened. I prepare some provisions and soon leave the house. I descend the stairs and manage to pass stealthily by the guards. For the first time, I'm grateful for my small body.

I know my aunt would be capable of moving mountains just to get revenge. Knowing that, I decide to head to the only place where even she wouldn't dare to go: the Forest of Night Terrors.
