Siege of Amer Fort Prt-3 (Glory of charge?)

Kingdom of Amber, Fort of Jaipur, few days back on 12th march 1557.

Havildar Tanuj from Marwar faction was given one mission before the start of the battle. Just like many other havildar ranks, he was assigned to handle his 10-man unit of militia to put the raft of pallisade logs to fill the gap of the moat or die trying.

Throughout the march, he passed through unimaginable dangers. He watched as his comrades were torn to shreds by cannon shots. The air grew heavy with the scent of gunpowder and the cries of people, but he pressed on, knowing well there was no going back.

To make matters worse, the hail of giant stones unfurled upon them. It exploded upon impact, and its debris caused massive damage. One such giant stone arched in his direction, and Tanuj narrowly escaped death when this massive boulder crushed the group beside him.

With each projectile, he anticipated an incoming attack, but fate had his role certain, and he made it through the carnage to become the leading group marching towards the walls.

As Tanuj's unit approached the moat, he rallied his men, "Stay strong! Our king will honor our sacrifice. Push forward!" He knew his promise would be in vain if task is not completed.

Suddenly, an influx of allies appeared from the other side. His subordinate, inquired in panic, "Havildar, why are our allies rushing in?"

Tanuj, dodging another arrow, responded, "No time to question! Keep moving!"

Arrows rained down like rain shower. many got repelled but few got passed and eventually pierced his comrades There was no time to mourn nor to regret but by filling the gaps they pressed forward. With only six men left within the group they charged ahead with hope. The moat was away for only few meters.

"Get ready to push the raft!" he ordered.

As they prepared to push, another group charged forward, only to be met with a spsh of boiling water. The group broke formation, screaming in agony as arrows impaled them from all sides.

"Hold!" Tanuj commanded his men as he waited for the right moment. The intensity of the barrage increased, but the influx of allies reduced their concentration.

They watched as another group passed them, followed by another spsh of hot water. Wasting no time, Tanuj yelled. "Now! Push with all your might!"

"For the king! For our families!" His men pushed the raft without any care. They dropped the raft into the moat, bridging the gap only to get impaled by upcoming arrows.

The defenders also, caught off guard as they repced the pots of boiling water and got momentarily distracted. They shot arrows but more people rush in.

The arrows flew, and Tanuj's men were impaled, but in that brief window, more groups surged forward. The momentum was so fierce that some fell into the moat along with the group, with no time to pce the raft. The water was painted with their blood, but undeterred by it, they kept pushing on to bride the gap. It was a scene of moths running into the fme.

The defending archers, though fierce, struggled to repel the relentless assault . Soon, within fifteen minutes, the bridge was filled with rafts and heap of bodies of men, thanks to their uncountable sacrifices.

Soon dders were pced against the walls and soliders began climbing them

Upon the wall, more reinforcements pushed forward as another row of heavy infantry joined the fresh ranks on defending side.

The heavy infantry already assigned in walls switched gear with shield and spear and stood form the first line while the archers went pass behind for any incoming climbing from the dders. while defenders from murder holes keep shooting on the assembled enemy at ground.

From the walls, a defender sardar commading his group yelled, "Hold the line! Don't let them breach!"

The csh was fierce as the attackers swarmed the walls. Tanuj, wounded but undeterred, grabbed a fallen sword but his role got abruptly finished as he got impaled in the neck and got trampled by his comrades.

A trampling soldier, climbing the dder, shouted back, "Victory or death!"

But soon he was also shot down as his body fell on the moat with a spsh. Anyone rushing the wall would either get impaled by the arrows or would get hit by the spears. It was the strategy they were trained by their king Tejpal to let them pop out one by one only to be struck by their group as collective attack. Through their training, they held on the ground while more dders got pced on the walls.

Near the gate, General Puran Das didn't block the gate as per the pn. Rather, he had pced a group of soldiers in an intact shield wall formation which acted as a human barrier. Their spears jutted out through the gaps, ready to counter any attack.

The enemies, after passing over the moat, rushed inside the wide area breach with sheer hatred.

  "Punish the traitors"

  "For the glory of Rajputana"

For them, defenders are the traitors for which they had to march so long away from their family, and it's time for revenge. Brandishing their pointed bdes out, they hit on the shield wall but got impaled in return from the spearmen's counter.

Some brave warriors often tried to jump and pass over, but they got shot by arrows to crumble on ground lifeless.

A new threat appeared on walls, as soldiers of heavy armor approached the dders.

They climbed with shields intact. Defenders felt panicked as none appeared for a brief period but soon, with discipline, the enemies lunged descended altogether. The arrows too were blocked by the shield, and easily locked their resembling the fighting stance.

Soon more came forward, and their presence increased, but that caused little change to the scenario as archers shot in the gap of their armor and spears of defenders pushed them out of the wall.

General Mahesh stomped his feet in frustration as he watched the fierce csh on the western front while his men stood idle in formation on the southern side. Unable to contain his irritation, he rushed over to General Nagpal on his position and confronted him directly.

"Nagpal, I admit you're a brilliant strategist. But you can't keep me out of every pn. I've got a score to settle, and it's killing me to just stand here doing nothing!"

General Nagpal regarded him calmly and nodded. "I understand your frustration, Mahesh. There's a role you can py, but patience is the key."

After 2 hours of fierce csh

On the attackers' side, Maldev observed the csh intently before turning to his commander. "It's time. We need to send in our cavalry. Commander Vardhan, lead the main forces."

Commander Vardhan bowed respectfully. "As you command, Your Majesty."

He rode to the cavalry's side and addressed them one st time.

"Brave warriors of Rajputana, the moment has arrived. Today, we charge into glory and make history. Follow me!"

With his nce raised high, he rallied the entire cavalry of 10,000 strong. His cavalry followed with unwavering resolve.

As they surged forward, the defenders' cannons roared to life, and stones were hurled from catapults. Explosions rocked the battlefield, shredding many of their comrades, yet the cavalry pressed on.

By now, the first wave of soldiers were weary of their arrival. The horn was blown, signaling the soldiers near the breach to retreat and clear a path for the cavalry. The moat had been bridged, and Commander Vardhan was ready to unleash chaos.

Spotting the shield wall formation ahead, he scoffed in disdain before bellowing his war cry.

  "For honor!"

  His men echoed back.

  "For glory!"

With that, they charged headlong into the fray.

But before the cavalry could cross the gap, General Puran Das, watching the enemy's advance with steely resolve, gave the order. "Disperse to the sides!" His troops reacted immediately, breaking the shield wall formation and moving to the fnks, creating what seemed like an open path for the enemy cavalry. It was the bait for the trap they had meticulously set.

Commander Vardhan, at the head of his force, was momentarily shocked. The defenders had voluntarily cleared the way, revealing what looked like a wide, open courtyard. With no time to halt, his cavalry surged forward. But as they advanced, the path ahead was revealed to be treacherous. Instead of a clear passage, there were trenches dug deep into the earth. The first trench was shallow and empty, designed to deceive, while the two following trenches were deeper, filled with soldiers tightly packed in a formation of long spears. Behind them, archers stood ready, their arrows nocked and aimed.

Vardhan, realizing the trap too te, attempted to jump the first trench with his horse. But his horse stumbled upon caltrops hidden beneath the dust, its scream piercing the air as it colpsed into the shallow ditch. Vardhan was thrown from the saddle, nding hard as the rest of his cavalry followed, their momentum unstoppable. Horses neighed in panic as they fell into the trenches, crushing those who had gone before. The once mighty charge was reduced to chaos.

Arrows were released in a deadly rain, striking the incoming cavalry with precision. Despite the chaos, the momentum of the cavalry was so immense that many managed to cross the first trench, only to be impaled on the pikes of the waiting infantry. The infantry near the gate, positioned strategically on the sides, held their spears firm, forcing the cavalry to continue straight ahead into the deadly trap.

Some cavalrymen, realizing the dire situation, tried to maneuver around the trenches, but the narrow space and the sheer volume of men and horses made it impossible. The desperate cries from the front reached the ears of those still charging from behind.

  "It's a trap!"

  "Make way, don't push!"

But the warnings were drowned out by the noise of battle, and the rear of the cavalry, unaware of the carnage unfolding at the front, continued to press forward. Horses and riders fell into the trenches, their bodies impaled on spears or trampled by those following behind. Some riders, realizing the futility of the charge, jumped voluntarily from their saddles, only to be picked off by the archers waiting in the distance. The once unstoppable charge was brought to a brutal halt.

The command of the cavalry fell to Sub-Commander Mrinal, who, seeing the destruction, made the desperate decision to break off the attack. He led the remnants of the cavalry away from the trap, steering them toward the southern gate, where they hoped to regroup. But their peril was not over. As they try to manoeuvre, the defenders' own cavalry emerged from southern gate to strike the final blow.

The battlefield, once filled with the thunder of hooves, had become a scene of chaos and death. Despite the failure of the glorious charge, the battle was far from over, as the strength advantage still y with the attackers.
