The day came to an end and a new week came. Monday morning Yubi woke up with a smile on her face. Now that she had a new lease on life everything looked better, felt better. Colors were brighter, sounds crisper, hell she could even smell the scrambled eggs her mother was cooking downstairs. It might or might not be because her quirk also enhances her senses.
Now awake, Yubi got into her daily routine. First she made her bed before taking a quick shower. Thankfully she could do this much alone. After putting on her clothes Yubi hurried down the stairs, her stomach rumbling with hunger.
“Ah, there is my little kit. Eat quickly or we will be te.” Yubi nodded as Naomi set a pte with a rather rge serving of scrambled eggs with some toast. Yubi had always been one to eat a lot and now her quirk made it so she needed even more food.
Devouring more than eating her food Yubi finished quickly before dashing to the bathroom. Cleaning her teeth was a bit harder than she remembered from her st life. Long cananines made it so she needed to brush carefully otherwise she could either hurt her teeth or damage the brush with them.
Clothed, clean and full Yubi walked with Naomi hand in hand as she took the four year old to the daycare. Two more years and Yubi would start school which admittedly made her cringe internally. The thought of having to go through school again made her despair a little. At least, this time around she wouldn’t need to study as hard.
Lost in thought the walk went by and so Yubi stood at the door to the daycare. Reviewing her memories Yubi realized that she didn’t have all that many friends. Not that it would matter much, she was already used to being a loner. That and the fact her possible friends would be way too young and immature for her liking.
Once inside Yubi began pying around with the different toys. Sure, she might have the memories of her eighteen years of life and a broader look on it. That however, doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy pying with toys. Imagination is something she had always valued in herself and others. That is perhaps why she enjoyed reading so much.
The toys she had taken to py with were the usual building blocks. Where kids would usually just pile them up or make a tower as tall as they could she instead decided to build something… more. Taking her time, Yubi made a pn in her mind as she began pcing the blocks where they should go. Being meticulous with her building technique as to have the walls of the castle symmetrical and properly aligned.
As time passed more kids became entranced with Yubi’s building skills. Some even began handing her more blocks from the storage basket. Normally each kid would be given a certain amount of blocks to prevent fighting. Now they were sharing their blocks to see what Yubi could make.
A few hours ter the flow of blocks stopped as Yubi had used them all. The castle was mostly finished with a tower missing some blocks to reach its full height. Satisfied with her work Yubi looked around to see all the other kids admiring her work. Not being used to the attention, Yubi's cheeks became tinted with a bit of pink.
“That looks awesome!” One of the kids who had been passing blocks couldn’t help but shout in excitement as he began walking around the rather rge castle poking here and there to assess the structure's sturdiness.
“Hehe, thanks.” At that moment Yubi felt like she did when she had been younger in her past life. It was a good feeling, one she had missed for the longest time.
“Ne, ne, Yubi let's py ball now.” Looking to her side Yubi found a girl about her age with bright cyan hair and clear gold eyes. Her only friend and a girl with a bit too much curiosity and creativity. Ayako Kikai, the girl could disassemble even a steel ball. Not literally but she would always try and take things apart to find out how they work.
“Sure.” Getting an idea, Yubi took one of the many tennis balls around and threw it lightly against one of the walls of her castle. As the ball impacted the wall the blocks moved deforming the wall, yet it held.
“Attack the castle!” Yubi shouted with a smile as she took another ball. Her sudden decration brought the other kids out of their disbelief at seeing the creator of the castle destroying it. With smiles on their faces the kids took the many different balls around before throwing them at the castle.
Impact after impact the walls deformed and crumbled until the castle colpsed. Laughter could be heard as the kids began enthusiastically rebuilding the castle. Some walls were made thicker to better withstand the impacts. The towers were removed, the material being used for reinforcements. The castle turned into a fortress.
Like that the day went by with a bunch of kids engaging in the act of creation and destruction. Of course, that wasn’t the only thing they did the whole day. Some of them had to start learning, mainly the older ones. Reading and writing as well as simple math like addition and subtraction.
It was this that made the caretakers surprised as they saw Yubi easily dealing with the math side of things. She still had some trouble with reading and writing though her progress was a bit too fast for a kid her age. Then again, with quirks around the abnormal became normal.
At some point the kids began talking about heroes and quirks as well. Some of them had already awakened their quirks prociming that they would become heroes like all might. Unfortunately Yubi could already tell that most of them weren’t cut to be heroes.
From all the kids with awakened quirks she guessed only two or three had good enough quirks. Those being a kid with a speed quirk, one with a water maniputing quirk, and one that could shoot something like glue from his fingers. That st one would need to train a lot though.
Ayako didn’t have her quirk just yet. However, something told Yubi that Ayako’s quirk would be powerful. Call it instinct or whatever, but she did hope that it would be the case. Afterall, Her and Ayako had been friends almost from birth. Naomi being a childhood friend of Eiko, Ayako’s mom, made it so Yubi and Ayako knew each other almost from the womb of their respective mothers.
Yubi being three months older than Ayako had decided, even before her memories came back, that she would be Ayako’s older sister. The fact the two enjoyed pretty simir things helped to strengthen their friendship.
Now that Yubi had properly awakened her quirk she couldn’t help but show off to Ayako and the other kids. Of course she was scolded for almost setting fire to the rug when her fming tail wagged under the amazed eyes of her peers. She had found that her tail was very expressive whenever she didn’t actively control it.
Like that the week went by in a simir manner. Yubi would go to the daycare from monday to friday staying at home on the weekends either pying with Ayako who came to visit or training her quirk. Being old inside made it so Yubi could keep her concentration when doing otherwise boring activities. Not only that but it let her approach her quirk in a scientific manner.
“Alright, I need to figure out how my quirk works if I want to use it in the best way possible.” With that in mind Ayako got to work measuring her quirk using whatever she had around. Soon enough she found a few interesting things.
Using a measuring cup from the kitchen Yubi measured a hundred milliliters of water. Carefully putting the measured water on a pan she used her quirk to heat up the pan until the water boiled. With some advanced mathematics she roughly calcuted how much heat she had produced vs how much mana she had used. She soon found out that each point of mana is capable of producing around ten megajoules of energy.
In other words: if she were to pour her entire mana pool into boiling water from a starting temperature of zero celsius at one atmosphere of pressure without any energy loss she could boil around three hundred seventy four liters of water.
This of course is completely impossible in reality. Even the best mechanisms in factories could only reach about eighty to ninety present efficiency. In an actual combat situation that number would drop to anywhere between fifty and seventy percent or even less. So it's safe to assume that she could only reach around half of that number.
Of course none of these calcutions were exact taking into account her less than adequate measuring equipment. Even so, it should be close enough to give Yubi an idea of what she could do. Not only that but it brought a few new ideas to the forefront of her mind.
“I need to learn to control my mana better.” Yubi mumbled as she pyed with the fire that burned at her fingertips. She had concentrated on feeling it and how it worked. She could feel her mana flowing from her body into her fingers before lighting up. The movement of her mana felt natural and instinctive. However, she felt like there was more to it.
Whenever Yubi tried to actively control her mana it would slip her grasp like trying to hold water with her hands. Day by day Yubi tried and failed to consciously control and manipute her mana. Yet there was some progress. If before it felt like trying to hold water with her hands now it was like trying to hold a watery syrup. Still extremely hard, yet easier than before.
Before she realized it a year had gone by and her birthday was closing in fast. She had made a lot of progress now being able to consciously manipute her mana. Though it required a lot of concentration despite being extremely slow in comparison to her more instinctual manipution of it.
It is however, important to note that manual manipution allowed her to do things her instinctual one didn't. An example of this would be that her instinctual manipution only let her light her hair, fur and nails on fire. Instead her manual one let her form a fireball on her hands. She could already see herself throwing fireballs left right and center in the future.
Another thing that she realized was that her mana pool had grown a lot. From her measly a hundred points it was very close to doubling. All her hard work was bearing fruits and the sensation of growing stronger was somewhat addictive. Ayako had also awakened her quirk a month after Yubi. And while Yubi’s was strong, Ayako's was a cheat through and through.
It happened during one of their writing lessons. Ayako had forgotten her pencil at home. Then a pencil identical to her own appeared on her hand. It wasn’t instant, instead, blue lines of energy formed the contour of the pencil before the rest of the space was filled in until the pencil appeared. After that Ayako suffered a nose bleed and fainted.
The day after that Ayako came back to the daycare with a radiant smile before boasting about her new quirk. It so happens that her quirk is extremely demanding of both her physical and mental capabilities. She can create anything she knows the workings of from thin air at the cost of mental strength and physical stamina.
For now her parents had devised for simple exercises with her quirk to help her get used to it as well as strengthen her. You could see her making random shapes out of iron here and there. She expined that the more complex something is the more it drains her mental strength while the rger something is the more stamina it uses.
Back then the pencil had pced a lot of pressure on her mind due to it being made of wood. From the looks of it anything involving biology is extremely taxing to her and so she avoids it like the pgue. Instead she has taken to building simple mechanical contraptions.
We like to train together in mock competitions. She would make something like a metal cube and I would try to melt it. Despite my progress with my quirk, melting metal is extremely taxing and so it is good training. It also helps Ayako with her quirk.
One thing that is worth mentioning is that Ayako can’t create permanent things. Whatever she creates will disappear once she stops supplying it with her stamina and mental strength. I have no idea on the workings of how her quirk makes sense. Something about quantum superposition and fake matter reconfiguration.
All of that is theoretical science that was confirmed by Ayako’s quirk. From what I overheard her mother talking with mine it made a big wave in the scientific community. In the end it only confirmed a theory, despite running tests and what not they couldn’t find how Ayako’s quirk did it.
A small downside of Ayako’s quirk is how she has become a bit zier. That and how she likes taking things apart even more now than ever. Worse is the fact she now has a proper excuse to do it. The chances that her quirk also enhances her brain somehow is rather high taking into account how she was learning math and sciences at an astonishing speed.
With all of that said, Yubi felt like her new life was everything she could have asked for and more. A loving family, being a girl, having a great friend in real life, being a girl, having fun and did I already mention being a girl. Yeah, everything was great and Yubi hoped it would stay like that forever.
