Cassion might have been spying on his sister. As soon as he saw her walking down the hall with a genuine smile on her face, he knew something was up. Who would be smiling after the way she had been treated? Cassion didn't get it. The only reason she was even being treated this well was because his father had some use for her. Especially after the morning's fiasco about her room he was even more sure that something was wrong with his sister. Did she use magic subconsciously? That has to be the only explanation, right? Even so, that kind of magic is nearly impossible, so for someone to do it without noticing is a big deal. Is she some kind of monster? Was his father right? Was she a demon?
He decided to follow her just in case. Who knows, he might discover a performance of a demonic ritual. He followed her throughout the mansion. She just kinda wandered around, looking through doors and poking at the decor. Eventually he followed her to a room even didn't know about. A small library that was unknown to him. She scurried around the place looking at random spots. Could she even read?
She eventually settled down with a stack of random books. When he took a look at the titles, he blushed. Why would a three year old want to read . Something was definitely wrong with her. Eventually she got to a book with a worn out cover, she read it for a few hours (yes he was just watching her read for hours on end) and then started crying uncontrollably. He remembered that book with the worn out cover. It had a happy ending. The heroes saved the world. Why was she crying? Yes, it did get a little dark at the end, with the villain killing herself, but the world was saved and there was a happily ever after. He didn't understand.
She eventually got up and went back to her room, her eyes red and puffy but filled with determination. But to do what? He followed her back to her room and watched her close the door behind her. He couldn't exactly keep watching her with a door in the way so he headed back to the main library to continue studying, but the only thing going through his mind was how strange and unusual she was. The day before, she shouted unheard of curse words as she was carried, and today cried about a book with a happy ending. He didn't understand her at all.

Arion might have been spying on his brother while his brother spied on their sister. As soon as he saw Cassion sneaking around the mansion without his face buried in a book he knew this had to be good. Arion understood why his sister was happy. She had made a new friend the day before. Despite her living conditions, she kept being positive and smiled at every little thing that made her day better. He admired that. Arion wished he had the guts to speak up to Father, let alone use profanities against him. He admired her. Even the whole thing about her room that morning was admittedly cool. She did something incredibly amazing without even trying! Who wouldn't be impressed.
He decided to follow his brother following her, just in case something cool happened. Like a fight, or more cursing. He liked his sister's cursing. She just kinda wandered around the mansion. It was hilarious seeing his brother get nervous when she got too close to an expensive piece of furniture or touched a fragile vase. Eventually he followed them to the small library that Arion used to slack off. It wasn't very well organized so there was an abundance of spots to hide in. Arion was surprised to learn that his sister could read though.
When she sat down with the kind of books his mother checked out he almost blew his cover laughing out loud. He could practically see Cassion's face turning red after reading the titles. She started reading one of Arion's favorite books of all time. He really liked it, it had a great story along with none of that black and white story telling where there was clearly a good side and a bad side. She read it for a couple hours. Arion was surprised that his brother just kinda watched her turn the pages. He just read a book while he waited. After those few hours were passed, Arion was startled to see that she finished it in only a couple hours. A thousand page book usually takes a bit more time to read. She was crying. He knew why. That book had a really sad ending. Even if the heroes saved the world, they killed essentially two innocent people to do so. The only thing they did was love each other. The real villains were the people who locked them up in the first place. If the girl was let out of the tower, the world wouldn't have gone through that horror.
She eventually got up and went back to her room. Cassion followed and Arion followed him. As soon as the door was shut and Cassion walked away, Arion went to knock on the door.
Rinaye's door opened.
