The Current of Genesis

The main generators have been acting strangely recently. A malfunction perhaps? Nevertheless we are short on maniacs. I suppose i'll have to go investigate the oddity myself. - Written by James Colin 5 minutes before the main generators were shut off due to a malfunction.

I was in a white room, a metal claw gripping my stomach. I stared down into the seemingly murky water. Was that a shark? Before I could worry more I was lowered into the water. I held my breath, covering my mouth with my hands to help me. I fought to break free, but the claw wouldn’t budge. The world started to spin, I saw bubbles rise from my mouth and the taste of salt coated my tongue. My vision blurred, and everything felt unsteady. I felt my arms and legs start to go limp as my eyelids drooped. Then my eyes closed and I saw only darkness. Why is this happening? I thought to myself before everything, and I mean everything, faded to nothing.

I woke up to a world of water. The metal claw was nowhere to be seen. I still had two arms and two legs thankfully, but wait... a tail? Gray skin? Black stripes? A white underbelly? WHAT WAS I!? I thought frantically, scrambling around and causing many bubbles to rise to the water’s surface. To my horror and dread, I found it was getting hard to think. I had to force thoughts into my head only to make out even the simplest emotions. Then I blinked, and blinked again, and the panic had vanished, washed away with the soft current. My tail swayed in the water, my body--which had once been unfamiliar--was now completely natural. My surroundings were similar, everything seemed… normal. I swam to the surface of the water, my tail propelling me upwards. A few water droplets scattered as I raised my head above the surface. Water dripped from my hair as I looked around. I felt like I was forgetting something, but if I forgot it, it must have been unimportant.

I shook my head, attempting to dry my hair, but it was to no avail. I looked up, noticing that I was being observed by a group of people wearing white lab coats. researchers. they scribbled down notes on note pads and clipboards, staring down upon me as if I was a mere test subject. I am no weakling to be controlled by inferior being; I am a proud LATEX, AN APEX!
