Chapter 22 – Speed Kills

We spotted a new type of creature.

  I quickly activated [Identification].

  ---

  [Creature: Mutated Dog]

As the st notification hit, my muscles suddenly rexed—like they were melting.

A strange stretching sensation ran through my limbs.

  Am I turning into rubber?

  Then I noticed something.

  Everything looked... slow.

The mutated dog was bending its limbs to pounce—but it looked like it was doing it in slow motion.

Ethan, standing right in front of it, hadn't reacted at all.

No defense. No movement. Just standing there.

I gnced at my hands—and they, too, were moving slowly.

  Or… maybe not.

  That’s when it hit me.

‘I’m not moving slow. I’m seeing everything in slow motion… Is it because of the high agility?’

  I quickly checked the changes.

  ---

Agility: 7 + (100 passive ability) (350% when ability is active)

  Ability Points: 2,472;

  ---

‘Even without activating the ability… my agility alone is more than ten people combined.’

I shifted my gaze to the dog—suspended in mid-air, mid-pounce.

Ethan finally noticed it, his eyes widening.

Without thinking, I threw my axe.

It spun fast—like a blur—cutting through the air straight toward the dog.

From my perspective, the axe was moving three times faster than the creature.

  That’s how slow everything looked.

The bde struck the dog midair—barely two feet in front of Ethan’s face.

  Then I blinked.

And just like that… everything snapped back to normal speed.

  ---

‘F**k, that was awesome… but also weird. It’s uncomfortable—like I’m fast, but also slow at the same time.

It’s not even a skill. It’s just focus. Just high agility overpowering everything else.

Feels like I’m living one blink at a time.’

  ---

  Ethan gnced at me. “Thanks.”

“No problem,” I said, brushing it off. “Let’s move.”

I approached the corpse. I used [Decompose], and just like before, the body vanished—leaving behind a glowing core.

‘Right. I forgot to give the st one away… now I’ve got two.’

  I thought for a moment.

‘Who would benefit most from this? Lena… she has a fire ability. It feels more advanced than the others. Yeah, let’s go with her.’

I walked over. “Lena, here—use this. It’ll help your ability st longer.”

She gave me a confused look. “What is it for?”

“Just use it. You’ll see. It’s useless for me.”

She held the core in her hand, still unsure. “It says it can create a new ability…”

“Yeah, but the success rate is super low. Just use it to extend your fire ability’s active time. That’s the real benefit.”

Nathan stepped in, frowning. “What’s the meaning of this?”

  “What do you mean?”

‘Damn old man—I just wanted to see how powerful her ability really is…’

Nathan squinted. “You better not be pnning anything. You may not look old, but you feel older than my daughter.”

‘How the hell does he know that? Father’s instinct?’

Lena suddenly stepped behind him, half-hiding.

‘Seriously? I just gave you something useful. Be thankful I didn’t just kill you and decompose you into ability fuel. Ugh—what the hell am I even thinking? When did I start having thoughts like that? It’s not like I meant it… or—yeah, maybe I did joke about it st time… but it was just a joke. Right? No. Forget it. Don’t make things more complicated.’

“You’ve got the wrong idea,” I said, raising my hands. “I gave it to her because she’s got the best ability—besides mine, of course.”

Nathan’s expression softened a little. “Good. It’s good to be clear.”

Then Samantha muttered from the side, smirking, “So… you’re into young-looking girls?”

‘What the hell is she talking about? Let’s just ignore her…’
