I always thought life was simple. Boring, even. Wake up, go about your day, waste time on the internet, then sleep. Rinse and repeat. I’ve consumed countless stories—novels, games, movies. Fantasy, sci-fi, apocalyptic survival, even those questionable ones tucked away in the corners of the internet. If there was a concept, I’d probably seen it before. And that’s exactly why, when I woke up one day with a system, I didn’t trust it. Systems in fiction are always up to something. They’re either some omnipotent guide, a hidden trap, or worse—something that changes you in ways you don’t realize until it’s too late. I’ve read it all before. The overpowered protagonist. The one who gets played. The one who thinks they’re in control but never really are. So when I heard that first ding, I didn’t celebrate. I didn’t feel lucky. I just wanted to know: What is this thing? It didn’t feel like the usual power trip. No sudden level-ups, no mysterious knowledge flooding my brain. Just a presence. A voice that answered questions but never revealed too much. It gave me just enough to be curious, but never enough to feel safe. I don’t know what I’m dealing with.
