After expining the assessment details, Wu Yan finally got to the main point.
"Everyone, take a seat on the floor. The first lesson will cover some essential knowledge for trainers," Wu Yan said, leading by example as he plopped down on the ground.
The training hall’s floor was quite clean. Most boys weren’t too particur and followed suit, sitting down as well. Some girls, who were more concerned about cleanliness, handed each other tissues to sit on.
Once everyone was seated, Wu Yan began.
"First, I assume you all have some basic knowledge about Pokémon—things like their abilities, moves, and the evolution methods of certain special Pokémon. These were covered in middle school, so I won’t repeat them."
"What we’ll focus on in this training css is how to raise an excellent Pokémon and how to become an outstanding trainer."
"Since you’ve chosen this path, you should understand that your future—whether in university or your career—won’t involve ordinary jobs."
"Chances are, I’ll see you in various restricted areas, secret realms, and gyms in the future. If you don’t switch careers, I might even call you ‘Heavenly King’ or ‘Heavenly Queen’ someday."
This comment drew ughter from the students across all five csses.
After a brief pause, Wu Yan continued, "But as trainers, your path won’t be risk-free, especially when exploring secret realms and restricted areas. A strong Pokémon will be your greatest safeguard."
"I’m sure most of you have heard of the ?three key elements of Pokémon training, right? Who can tell me what they are? Don’t worry if you’re wrong."
Wu Yan pointed to a student who raised their hand.
"The three elements are energy accumution, skill development, and potential allocation," the student confidently answered.
Wu Yan nodded. "Good answer. In fact, the importance of raising a Pokémon follows this order: energy accumution is more important than skill development, which is more important than potential allocation."
"I’m guessing most of you received your Pokémon this summer, right? Some of you might have gotten them for free from the Pokémon Center, bought them from the market, or had them prepared by your parents. But I’m sure most of you have already followed some online guides to figure things out, like your Pokémon’s energy absorption limit. How many of you can tell me your Pokémon’s daily energy absorption limit? Raise your hand."
The energy absorption limit refers to the maximum amount of energy a Pokémon can absorb in a given period, usually calcuted per day.
For example, Su Wen’s Charmander, with Su Wen’s assistance, could reach its absorption limit in less than two hours.
Out of nearly 200 students across the five csses, fewer than twenty raised their hands.
Wu Yan craned his neck to count, then nodded and gestured for everyone to lower their hands. "These students either paid for energy absorption at a gym or found some excellent training spots. Under normal energy concentrations in Cloud City, none of you should be able to reach the absorption limit, even if you absorb energy 24 hours a day."
"Tomorrow will be a special day for the training hall. From noon to midnight, the energy concentration inside will reach around 80,000 Cal due to the machines running at full capacity. Normally, the concentration is only 30,000 Cal."
"So tomorrow, your only task is to use the time from noon to midnight to determine your Pokémon’s energy absorption limit."
Someone raised their hand and asked, "Teacher, what if we can’t reach the absorption limit in twelve hours?"
Wu Yan gave them a serious look. "Then I suggest you either give up on being a trainer or give up on this Pokémon. Of course, the w prohibits abandoning or harming your Pokémon without a valid reason, so your only option is to quit being a trainer. The school will transfer you to a regur css."
Seeing the confusion and concern on everyone’s faces, Wu Yan expined, "Energy accumution is something every Pokémon should do. Decades of research have shown that if a Pokémon reaches its daily energy absorption limit, it builds the most solid foundation possible."
"Simutions have shown that if two Pokémon—one reaching its daily absorption limit and the other barely meeting the minimum—reach the Elite level, their stats could differ by more than double."
"And this is just at the Elite level. At higher levels like Master, Gym Leader, and even Heavenly King, the gap could be even wider."
At this point, Wu Yan paused and looked at the thoughtful faces in the crowd. He smiled and said, "I know what some of you are thinking. You’re determined to make your Pokémon reach its absorption limit, right? Unfortunately, raising a Pokémon isn’t just about energy absorption. The other two elements are equally important."
"To reach the absorption limit while bancing the other two elements, you’d need to keep the time under five hours. Unfortunately, most Pokémon take 8 to 10 hours to reach their limit."
"However, research has shown that a Pokémon’s energy absorption efficiency follows an oxygen dissociation curve—a fttened S-shape," Wu Yan said, drawing an imaginary curve in the air with his finger. "Stopping absorption at around half the limit is the most efficient approach. This not only leaves ample time for other training but also minimizes the gap with more talented trainers."
"But," Wu Yan added, "if you have the ability, I hope you can maximize your Pokémon’s daily energy absorption. It’s the best way to set them up for future growth."
"Next is skill development, which is straightforward. It has three stages: first, being able to use a move; second, using it at maximum speed and power; and third, personalizing the move—essentially making it your own."
"Lastly, there’s potential allocation, which is theoretically the least important. I’ll start training some of you on this a week from now. Most of you only need to focus on the first two elements."
"Now, I’ll leave you to it. Release your Pokémon and let them absorb energy. I’ll adjust the training hall’s energy concentration. Make the most of your time."
At this point, Chen You did something that made everyone envious. He called out to Wu Yan, "Teacher, what if my Pokémon has already reached its absorption limit?"
Wu Yan pointed to another training area. "Go there and work on skill development."
Scratching his head, Chen You left the crowd and headed to the other training area.
"Wow~" The crowd was a mix of envy, jealousy, and awe. Was the gap already this big on the first day?
While Su Wen wasn’t exactly jealous, he couldn’t help but click his tongue. Chen You’s ability was truly useful.
