When Cob and I entered into the apartment by flying through the wall, Verona gawked at us and said, “You’re a ghost now too??? And who’s this other ghost?”
“You’re not gonna believe this,” I said, “but I had the misfortune to end up at a pub where Enyo also was, and she managed to slip some MDMA into my drink, and when I confronted her about it after I woke up next to her she tried to convince me that I’d agreed to take the MDMA and then she killed me when I wouldn’t agree to go along with her lie.”
“Damn…” Cob said, “I hadn’t known all of those parts yet…” and then he added, “I’m a police officer who broke the rules by investigating Enyo after Nex here went to the police department and told us about Enyo committing murder. Nex was a ghost when he told us about it, obviously, but we hadn’t realized that. I wasn’t supposed to investigate anything related to Enyo because she’s very supportive of our corrupt police department, and when I obtained proof that she’d committed murder another police officer murdered me and then covered up that Nex and I had been murdered.”
“Yup!” I said, “Which is why we’re planning on heading over to a retired chief of police to try n’ convince her to help us overthrow this corrupt system! Apparently, the police department was actually trying to serve and protect when she was the chief of police, and she might be able to use her influence to get rid of all of this evil corruption!”
“Sounds like a reasonable plan.” Verona said, “It’s hard to believe that the police department is this bad! I guess things can get worse very quickly in the government if the wrong people are in positions of power… So do we want to just head right over to where that retired chief of police lives? I’m ready to go when you are.”
“I know where her abode is,” Cob said, “and so I can certainly lead y’all over there right now!”
“Sounds good to me.” I said; and so Verona and I both followed Cob over to where the retired chief of police lived, and we flew straight through the walls of her abode and Cob said, “Hey, Jenna! It’s Cob, but I’m a ghost now! I can make myself visible whenever you want me to, and so just let me know when I should!”
“Cob?!?” Jenna yelled out while looking around, “Why are you pranking me like this!?! Don’t you have anything better to do!?”

“Not a prank, unfortunately.” Cob said, “Just do an internet search about me, and I think you’ll find something.”
Jenna did an internet search, and then soon frowned and said, “It says here that you tried to attack Enyo, and now you’re in hiding so that you won’t have to face justice for your crimes. It also says that you’re (obviously) fired and that there’s a big reward available for anyone who gives the police information that leads to your arrest.”
“Yeah, that’s quite a bulls*** story they’ve concocted, but what actually happened is that I got murdered for investigating a murder that Enyo committed.” and then Cob turned visible and said, “Oh, and I really am a ghost too.”
Jenna looked at the now-visible Cob in disbelief and said, “I’m pretty confident at this point that I must be dreaming, because there is no way in hell that this could actually be happening right now!…”
“I don’t know how to convince you that you’re not dreaming,” Cob said, “but how about I’ll just disappear for now and then talk to you again tomorrow? Maybe that will convince you?”
“Whatever…” Jenna said in a dazed tone of voice, “Yes, though, let’s do that. We’ll take a break, and if you’re real then you’ll come back again later and if you aren’t real then this was just a dream!” and so Cob turned invisible again, and it seemed to me like this interaction with the former chief of police actually hadn’t gone that badly! I mean, she seemed like (as long as we could convince her that we were real) she might actually be someone who would be open to helping us remove all of the murderous people in the government from power!
But then I began to wonder about the whole “am I dreaming” question. I mean, was it possible that I was dreaming?
But I quickly decided that it was pretty unlikely that I was dreaming, because I couldn’t remember ever having had many dreams that were this detailed and whatnot.
Now, in theory, all of my memories could all be dreams, and this whole life could be a dream-life, but I felt like I was about as likely to be awake as I’d ever been.
“Well,” Verona asked Cob in a voice that was low enough that Jenna wouldn’t hear, “can you think of any other people who we should visit while we wait for Jenna to become convinced that she’s awake?”
“I honestly think that Jenna is a good person to talk to first,” Cob said, “because if we can convince her to help us then I think that she might have enough influence that she’ll be able to get things moving in the right direction very quickly. And I think that it’s pretty likely that we’ll be able to convince her that our cause is good enough that she should join it…”
