Dear Risa,
We have arrived in the grand, sprawling metropolis of Stoneford.
It’s a nice place. The Traveler’s Guild here is right next to a huge bakery, so the room I’m in smells like fresh bread. I might have to go down there tomorrow and eat my weight in rolls.
Remember the time we went to that chocolate shop and put two gold coins on the counter and said “all of it” when the cashier asked what we wanted? Yeah, I’m kinda tempted to do that with bread tomorrow.
I sure do love being a responsible adult who makes good financial decisions.
Anyhow, we got here just before lunch, so Cali and I have already gone and seen the local monarch. They were expecting us, and accepted our report with few questions. Luke and Maki, like last time, went and told the people at the church here that the world is ending.
The church people offered our group dinner and lodging, which was nice. The church people in Default didn't offer us anything. We accepted dinner, but said we already had rooms.
It was kinda funny seeing Luke around official, high-ranking priests. It was so obvious they expected him to be some kind of paragon of holiness, and he’s just not. They expected it of me, too, but thankfully I had an excellent teacher when it comes to acting formal and saying what people expect me to say. Thank you for the training, Risa dear.

They didn't talk to Maki much. He said he’s just here to keep us alive, and they congratulated him on doing his sacred duty.
Cali, who actually is kinda religious, got into a fascinating conversation with the middle-ranking priest who sat next to her. I admit I didn't pay too much attention, since I was too entertained by Luke wishing he were anywhere else, but apparently Cali had a lot of good questions and arguments. That or the guy was completely infatuated with her. Possibly both!
Before we left he ran off and got something for her, then said she should totally visit him- er- the church the next time we pass through.
I’ll have to ask Cali what her thoughts are about him when she gets out of the shower. Might have to go back to the church and get his full name, then encourage letter-writing.
And because I know you’ll have noticed it, yes, Cali and I are sharing a room while Maki and Luke have another one. Luke and I aren't quiiiite to the point where we’re sharing a room yet. Maybe in the next city, but for now we’re trying to go slow.
I mean, we pretty much have to spend all day every day with my brother and cousin. I don't want to make them feel awkward or annoy them or anything.
So yeah, that’s about it. The trip here was uneventful. Cali is worried about animals, and is trying to find a way of telling them all that earthquakes are fun. I doubt she’ll manage it. If the Goddess ever contacts me again I’ll bring up the feelings of wild animals to her, but I’m not all that worried about it.
Somehow, I’m not worried about all the squirrels in the world being freaked out. Weird. But hey, that’s why Cali is the Beastmaster.
I’ll let you know if she figures something out.
Expectant Regards,
Maeve Zee
