Beatrice's Baked Delights. We stood in front of a tantalizing smell of buttery goodness. But is this what she brought us here for? I cocked an eyebrow at Anna as she stopped here to take a deep breath.
"Did you know? There's a more hidden secret in this bakery."
She led us towards a red door in the wall behind the bakery. Knocking on the door, she called out.
"Ma'am? It's me, Annabelle."
A set of hurried footsteps came. The door opened slowly, making sure that there wasn't a person behind to hit. A muscur dy in an apron came out, instantly brightening up her face as she reached out to hug Anna. It seemed that Anna had a retionship with every bakery she brought me to.
"Oh my, if you came back why didn't you tell me?"
She spun Anna around in a circle before gently putting her down. A copious amount of flour got smeared onto Anna's thick coat. Anna disregarded the flour and hugged her again. The baker flinched for a brief moment before hugging more tightly. We stayed silent, not intruding on this moment.
"It's okay, it's okay, everything is fine now, you're safe here..."
She soothingly caressed her head while murmuring kind words. I looked at Ezreal and then looked out and cocked my eyebrow. We inched further away.
"Oh where are my manners? Come in, come in."
She lifted Anna in a hug and walked inside as we followed inside. A warm gush of air invigorated us as delicious pastries baked right before our eyes. She walked upstairs with Anna in tow while we were left behind.
"Becka, Bertha, I have some guests."
The pair of twins gnced at each other while working the bakery. One was at the front handling orders and the other was tending to the oven.
""Not me!""
Perfect sync. The windows trembled in resonance from their shout. Sound can do that? Amazing, wonderful. A new path opened in front of me.
I have to know if I can do it too.
I instantly asked them.
"How did you girls do it? Is it from two simir sounds at the same time? Or is it because of how high your voice is. Tell me."
They both stepped back from me. A sudden realization hit me.
"Please?"
I asked with both hands csped in front. A sudden force tugged on my shoulder. Ezreal whispered in an audible voice.
"We don't ask questions like that around here. Who in their right mind would tell their twin style attack sonic boom?"
I nodded sagely. It makes sense. Magic secrets is something that needs to be traded with. The thing is, I don't have anything to give. Except for my body and skills?
The twin closest to us exploded, pointing at us and yelling.
"What twin style!? You come in and bbber like that??? The only reason why we haven't kicked you out is because the young miss is with mom!"
By the time she was done huffing and puffing, we were crouched while covering our ears. I chatted with Ezreal through the storm.
"I haven't been yelled at for quite some time."
"Heh, my mom does this all the time after drinking."
"Drinking? My mother never done that."
"Too bad my uncle never let me try. He has a stash that he drinks from after csses. 'Alcohol is the bane of men' is something he touts while dead drunk."
"Wow, drinking?"
"Yeah, me personally, I never even got close to one."
Huh, a third voice? We looked at each other. There's only the two of us here though? Horror filled us as we slowly turned our head to the front. A smiling face and throbbing veins came closer. A pair of hands grabbed our head.
"Hey brats."
She smashed our heads together. A sharp pain followed by an ache appeared on my head. Ezreal protested as I sat there in shock.
"What was that for!?"
"Just felt like it. What? Gonna do something about it?"
I pulled him back.
"You can beat one but you can't beat them all. Let's go. I have some of my own money so let's first find something to eat."
I shook my aching head with a sigh. It was partly my fault but it seemed she was going to be antagonistic regardless of what we do. We walked out the door as she jeered at us.
The moment we got out, he looked at me straight in the eyes.
"Why?"
"Remember, we were the guests there. We can't do much. BUT."
I held up my finger.
"We can borrow someone else's hand to do stuff for us. Anna seems important to the baker, who is in turn their mother. What do you think will happen when she finds out we were bullied out?"
His mouth hung wide open as my brilliant deduction showed new possibilities to him. It still felt bad to be bashed. A horrible thought popped into my head. I froze in pce.
"Wait, wait wait wait. We should wait outside the door, not leave. If we aren't there, then they can say whatever they want."
"I think I heard of something like this once. A friend of mine got accused of touching a women. Then, there wasn't a then."
We traced our steps back. Standing outside the door again, I was asked a question.
"What do you want to do in the future?"
"Me? I want to travel the world. Eat good food and look at the scenery. What do you want to do?"
I threw the question back at him. He froze in middle of combing his hair. He put away his comb before speaking seriously.
"My parents are explorers. They don't come back often, sometimes with new scars. They don't earn money consistently, they have bad habits. But there's an attraction for me. It's destiny really. Hahaha."
By the end, a smile had sprung up on his face. It reminded me of something.
"Oh yeah, about the don't ask magic thing? I'm from Demacia so I really don't know anything about it."
"Don't worry bout that. The only thing is to not ask people off the street. In fact, I'm somewhat of a mage too y'know?"
Are mages this common now? I gnced with a side eye.
"Here look."
He raised his hand and closed it, before flinging a small blue ray of light onto the ground. An extremely small explosion happened as pebbles cttered away.
"Umm, let's not say anything about the hole okay? It's always been there."
"No need to worry. I have some too."
I gathered the pebbles into the hole before patting it in. Next, I carefully drew a few lines to copy the brick style. Standing up, I patted my hands to rid it of the dust left.
"Wait wait. Can you do more?! Like not just your hands are something?!! If you can, how about you join my team? We don't even need to go through traps anymore! Just find the ruin and bam! Walk straight through."
"Where's the fun in that? Don't you seek the thrill? If you cheat, will you really be number one?"
I shook my head. It seemed however that Anna and the baker came down, as questions were being asked.
