35 – Snad, sand, ruins (2)

  "Ahhhh!"

My fist hit the wall. A stinging pain came soon after as we expectantly looked at the wall. Nothing happened. A wet sensation could be felt on my fist. My skin had gotten scraped off from punching at a wall. What else did I expect?

Wiping the blood onto my shirt, I turned to look at Ezreal.

  "What did you expect?"

His face had a grin as his eyes glimmered blue.

"Hey look. As I predicted. Am I genius or what? Hmm?"

I looked back at the wall. There was no difference.

  "Whatcha mean?"

  "Wait for it..."

I could feel it. The ground started trembling, faster and harder. Sand started to jump into the air. It stopped as abrupt as it started.

  "That's our cue."

He started walking, straight towards the wall. I held my breath. What I couldn't do, he was going to succeed in.

  Bang*

  "Owwwwah!!"

His face was flung back as he nded on his back. I face palmed. What cue? A cue for your stupidity perhaps? Ezreal picked himself up as he rubbed his back. Straightening himself with pain, he pointed towards the side.

"What are you looking at? Nothing happened here. Go go. Another door must've appeared."

Walking around the tomb, I just shoved stuff in it's direction to search for the entrance using the vibration when it touches the wall. Finding the entrance was easy, as there was only four directions. But as I went back, another opening revealed itself to me.

  "Lucky, eh."

I shook my head in despair. Why did I have to be lucky for him?

Walking back, I held out two fingers and wiggled them.

  "Normal entrance, not normal entrance."

  "Not normal in which way?"

"Looks like a crack that got formed in the shaking. Are you sure it was something we did?"

I looked suspiciously at him. He pushed me to move.

"Let's go with the side entrance, who knows what traps are at the front."

Arriving at the crack, we peered through it. In the dim darkness, a faint yellow glow glimmered among the words inscribed on the wall. We had arrived right at the burial room, bypassing all the other pces. Ezreal started deciphering the words pced before the coffin.

"Here y servant... Meh, who cares. It's just a servant. Obviously no danger, they're too poor for that! Huue."

He deftly climbed through the crack and stood before the simple yet ornate coffin.

  Nothing... happened.

No traps flinging rocks or magical lights flying our way. Not even a twitch as he started rummaging through the room, packing up everything that shone the slightest bit in the mp light. I got to work as well. We chatted as we robbed the pce blind.

  "This this this one first."

"You can start deciphering, I'll do the rest."

Ezreal grabbed a final goblet before quickly flipping through his parent's notes. Pages flipped behind me as I polished up the room and left for the others.

Simple delegation of duties. I, find ruins and make paths, Ezreal, explores and deciphers whatever is in the ruins. Let's hope this partnership sts for a long time.

Thoughts ran through my head as I felt my way through the dark. The ground had become softer to me as the magical circuits were disrupted by the big shake. Maybe I can try that next time. Even if the ruin colpses, I just need to dig it out right?

I put everything that wasn't a rock and had a good shape into my bag. One more run with the mp should finish it.

A faint tremble in this unmoving ruin shocked me. I stilled. Becoming like a rock, making sure that I didn't move. I was helpless in two ways, unable to match my temperature and needing to breathe.

We were at a stalemate, neither of us willing to move. I watched as their yellow eyes blinked in the darkness. I had to take the initiative.

  NOW.

  "RAAAHH!!!"

I made a feint, lunging forwards raising my arm to strike before turning to run. My heart pounded in my ears as I ran as fast as I could with the loot back to the light.

A faint pitiful crying sound was heard behind me. Goosebumps rose on my arms as I sped up even more. After what seemed like eternity in the dim darkness, I managed to navigate my way back.

Ezreal was prepared and ready, standing there holding his arm pointed at the entrance. We had a predetermined symbol, but I first needed to get out of the entrance. I pointed towards the right as he nodded slowly.

Out of breath, I y down the bag before getting into position. I didn't know when the thing I scared was going to start chasing so I had to do it fast.

Folding my arms, I got into a squat and started awkwardly kicking my legs out. What was the point of this again? Learning 'trendy' dances was well, the trend. What was even the trend when we are in middle of a desert where the closest pce of civilization was like half a continent away. Trends? Bah.

"There was something, hah, in the dark. Kuheum. Something in the dark moved. Also when can I stop doing this?"

"Gotta train your legs more. You can stop now, don't tire yourself too much. Let's cover the door. Come on, I'll help you lift it."

Nodding, I reached into the crack to grab pieces of sandstone, handing it over to Ezreal as he stacked it. Smoothing it over, I climbed back down the crack with the loot, leaving Ezreal with a light bag as he prepared to open the coffin with a metal pole.

He swiftly pushed aside some part of the cover.

"Woah... Even the servants get rich."

Shoving the goodies into the bag, we left the ruins.
