Chapter 6

  Chapter 6

As Drakkel walked the streets of Dragon’s Dwelling with the demon lords in tow, he thought of the deal he had made. If everything worked out, he could only stand to benefit. He would kill several birds with one stone.

After a while, he and his group had finally arrived at the restaurant that Palta Stone had recommended to them: “Ascending Skies.”

Ascending Skies was large and lavish. The base of the building was made of concrete, the walls were made with expensive and sturdy wood, and the roof was made of tiles.

It was three stories tall with each story having its own balcony. Decorated blue banners hung from its side, advertising its name.

According to Palta Stone, it was the most famous restaurant in the capital. It sold various delicious foods and drinks, but what really aided in its popularity were the stories it told.

Ascending Skies regularly divulged tales from the Swordfighting world, rumors within the Empire, and even untold stories from the Palace, attracting curious individuals who wanted to be entertained while they ate.

Other restaurants did the same, but still had to follow certain rules. But what was special about Ascending Skies was that such rules didn't seem to apply.

Spreading unapproved stories about internal Palace matters was forbidden so those who wanted to speak of these matters, could only speak in hushed tones.

Because of this, one would think a place like this one would have been shut down by the Emperor by now. But, it wasn't. In fact, he sponsored its growth himself. It was said that the Emperor would sometimes visit the place incognito. And because the Emperor didn't publicly say or do anything in response to these beliefs, It was even rumored that the Emperor may have owned it.

If it weren't for this fact, Drakkel would have tried to make connections with them.

Drakkel and his group walked inside and found a table to sit near the stage. Soon after, a server came up to them and showed them a menu.

Drakkel ordered some light dishes and sent him on his way. As he went, an old man approached the stage and began to speak.

“The Sword summit is in six months and several of you wonder what might happen. After all, many Sword Fighters are still searching for Demon King Drakkel. A year ago, when he escaped The Golden Peak Swords Clan after killing his master, the one who treated him like a son, he disappeared.”

  Drakkel clenched his fists.

“What if he killed his master, enslaved Shadowy Ridges, eliminated the Thousand Petals Swords Clan, orchestrated the demon assault on Heaven’s Path, and committed many of his numerous other crimes to exact revenge over the death of his predecessor, Demon King Fael?! What if he comes for the rest of the Sword Fighting World next?!

That must be why the leaders of the Sword Clans are increasing their numbers of recruits. Even the famously closed off SwordSmith Villa Swords Clan, strict High Mountain Glaive Swords Clan, and particular Enchanting Fans Swords Clan are participating in this!

We’ve heard that to assure the masses and protect from the growing force of demons, many Sword Masters who hadn't previously come to the summit would show up!

We expect it to be one of the most eventful ones yet, so this year we are allowing people to place bets on who they think will win.

As always, We’ll also begin to share exploits and stories of every promising Sword Fighter we know to allow you all to determine who you would like to bet on.”

The server broke Drakkel's concentration as he came forward with the food.

Drakkel was about to eat a piece of meat, when the storyteller continued. “And Rilian Adore, the poor man!”

The meat slipped off his utensil.

“His clan refused to comment on the situation, but don't we all already know? Led astray by Demon King Drakkel, he traveled with him as these incidents occurred. Now, for the past year he has been held by his clan, never allowed to step foot outside the manor!

We can only guess by the rumors traveling around that he has been placed under a spell! Some even say that no matter what they do, he refuses to reveal what atrocities the new Demon King committed! Because his words and actions can't be trusted, his clan will not even allow him to participate in the upcoming summit.

Although he never competed before, we heard they were hoping to use him to maintain their status as the number one clan. However, the Golden Blade isn't the only talent in the Golden Peak Swords Clan, so they may have nothing to worry about.

Speaking of rankings, because of the demise of the Thousand Petals Swords Clan and the Sacred Sword Swords Clan, the High Mountain Glaive clan has unofficially taken up the mantle of the second strongest Swords Clan. Meanwhile, the Sweeping Trees Swords Clan has temporarily been added to the list and may be officially added to the roster as well, especially if immortal beauty Jade Blossom Sonalita Pir decides to participate in the summit! Excitement runs high for the times to come!”

  Drakkel scowled.

The state of the world was as he expected it to be. However, even though he knew this, he couldn't help the way he felt about it.

Shia, Drion, and Fargos stared at him, their faces not really displaying much emotion. But Drakkel could still tell they were concerned.

He looked back at them with a smile.

“What are you all staring at? Eat.”

He picked up the meat that he dropped and placed it into his mouth but even as the flavorful juices leaked onto his tongue, he couldn't savor the taste.
