Chapter 7

  Chapter 7

After they finished their meal, Drakkel and his group headed to a nearby inn called ‘New Beginnings.’ As it was getting dark, they decided to settle in for the night.

This inn, however, was special. It wasn't the most renowned one in the capital, but it also wasn't the poorest.

It was very large and a good amount of people, all dressed in ordinary wear, bustled in and out. Upon seeing Drakkel, each worker gave him a short head bow.

He didn't even need to request a room as one of the workers went up to him and immediately showed him the way.

The room he was led to, laid at the end of a hall. On either side of the walls were 4 other rooms, adding up to 8 in total. Once the worker handed Drakkel the keys, she made herself scarce and left the area. Drakkel handed three of the four keys to the demon lords that accompanied him before taking his own and making his way to the room at the end of the hall.

The room was simply designed, containing only basic necessities, just as he preferred. The wardrobe was full of the types of clothes he wore to the capital and the accessories were like something a rich merchant would wear.

Drakkel sat down on the bed and closed his eyes. Not for cultivation, but for meditation. Now that he sat in one of the demon-owned locations, the rage that had been bubbling up like hot water in a teapot slowly released like steam from the spout.

In their attempts to find him, the demons set up locations with spies all over the Empire. The Inn he currently stayed in was one such place.

With the exception of Re’ila who was at the strength of a demon lord, the spies were mostly lower level who were nearly at the strength of a mid-level demon and their appearance was concealed with the learned arts of the demon lord of disguise, Shia. They were also trained by the demon lord of stealth and reconnaissance, Fargos. They answered to Illa, but Shia, Fargos, and occasionally Re’ila, assisted as well.

Upon learning exactly how many spy locations were set up, Drakkel couldn't say he wasn't surprised. The demons had one in half the cities and towns and even some villages. The network with which they communicated with was impressive as well. Drakkel imagined that the Hidden Desires Clan was the only one that could match them in network intricacy and tactics.

After they located him, the demon lords asked Drakkel if he wanted to maintain this network. At the time, Drakkel saw no reason to get rid of something that was already so intricately established. He had even used it for his own personal reasons.

Now that he sat here, he could only be glad about the decision he made.

As he continued to meditate, he thought about what he wanted to do. Doing so only caused his eyebrows to wrinkle and the corner of his lips to turn down.

What he had heard from Ascending Skies was useful, but it also gave him a sense of unease.

However, he knew that this uneasy feeling was a hindrance. It could only be buried deep within. Because, if he let it linger, he might falter. And if he faltered…

  He shook his head.

He had to discard any weaknesses and embrace any strengths. If something was causing him to falter, he only had to get rid of it.
