When Lisa learned the cardmancer subclass, she found it a lot easier to follow along with many of the concepts that Jeff tried to explain to her much easier to understand. She was not even surprised that after summoning the constructs they took shape as the ideal party team of beastkin. She as the scout and close-up hit-and-run damage dealer. The first construct she noticed was a tall Ursa that instantly became a tank, just without the proper gear. Next to it was a Lycan who looked like someone who favored both ranged attacks with a bow and close-up engagement with a short sword. The last two were a Vorpal and a Niko like herself. A healer and mage respectively.
“ I did not expect that!”
Jeff merely chuckled from beside her. His gaze seemingly unfocused as if reading a system message.
“ I assumed as much. It seems that yours changed into what you feel would be the ideal team to build around you.”
Lisa turned to him annoyed he was not continuing to explain.
“ Fine, the card I gave the dwarves is the exact same as I gave you. Literal blank slates that can become anything. Theirs will likely become a dwarf and will be as generic as possible. In turn, they will have to train it up to be what they want it to be. You, however, got my class as a sub-class, which means you get to skip a step. A small one mind you. Your cards became what you thought you needed most out of them.”
Lisa looked at the four standing backbone straight as if waiting for orders, with only a basic set of clothing on each of them and a different color to each of them. The ursa was a deep brown, the lycan was green, the Vorpa was a light blue and the Niko was a dark red. She quickly decided these were elemental affinities. Then Lisa realized a very large problem.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
“ Well, I am going to have to equip them aren’t I?”
Jeff laughed at this and shook his head.
“ Not as much as you think. Part of my deal with you will be providing basic gear. Repair and replace guaranteed. Take note that these four will be qualified as bottom-rank adventurers.”
Lisa sighed annoyed at this. She knew the dwarf brothers had maxed out the number of subclasses and took an alternate incentive instead of the class for the job. Which is why they will be getting a lot better gear than she will. Lisa opened the menu for the four and was a little surprised to find they each had some mastery of their chosen roles. The two mages even had a few spells already, including a healing one each.
“ Holy cow, I have never seen anyone under level ten this stacked before, little alone constructs.”
Jeff could not help but chuckle again.
“Yeah, it seems you got some of my proficiency when I taught you the class. Enough to not have to spend two weeks each and a lot of gold to make them worth anything. Just know it takes a lot of time, effort, and money to make them better. If you want the mages to know any spells over the tier ones they got it will cost you a scroll to learn them, or tutelage from someone who knows the spell.”
Lisa nods acknowledging this.
“ You said I get a budget to improve them. How much?”
Jeff brings out a notebook and flips to a central page.
“ A tier two for each of them, depending on the price, and one single tier three. This does not include the tier zeros you will be getting nor the promised skill of choice.”
“ Then after the armor and weapons shops, that is our next stop. After that, we should hit the auction house to see if we can get any deals there for rarer gear before hitting the general goods store. Agreed?”
Jeff nods to this and they set out.

Malcolm looked at the dwarf construct in front of him. His brother passed on having control of the construct and he was glad for it. Just half an inch taller than himself he looked at the female construct with a full beard that covered most of her face, even her forehead was mostly covered by hair by the most bushy brows he had ever seen. The only thing he could really see was a poke of the nose over the mustache at the bottom of a void area where the eyes were hidden. If he had to be honest he found it extremely attractive. After taking his mind out of his pants, he decided then to treat the thing like a wife he could not remance and resolved himself to being a good husband who had a wife that was fine with him sleeping around.
