chapter 71 duel of grass champions part 1

Maxwell and those in the pantheons above who favored one side or the other watched the battle that would decide the fate of the growing realm of necrotic smog. Maxwell found himself greeting teeth as the tension got to him, as not only did he have to wait and find out his fate, but he also had to be careful to continue the holy ritual he had started, as he couldn't stop what he had started, and he was pretty sure the energies building within the ritual would kill him just as much as the intruder's blade if they weren't used in the ritual properly.

So there Maxwell was behind his last walls, a battle to decide his fate right in front of them with the timer of his fallen elites reforming nearby and wondering if they would be in time or if perhaps his lords of the undead grass would be enough without the reinforcements. Maxwell shook his head, using his buried neck, and put his focus back on the ritual of creating the holy monster with holy relics. As he could do nothing for the fight outside his walls, he would focus on what he could do.

So it was that Maxwell went back to combining the artifacts of the monster pantheon, trying to combine the powers of three different courts into one beast. The courts in question are the sea, the forest, and finally dawn, all while his potential death loomed over him. Maxwell ignored the potential of his demise and got back to combing the artifacts into a single monster that the pantheon of monsters would be proud of.

Their creator and king now having left his fate entirely in their hands, or whatever their equivalents were, the lords of the undead grass kept trying to kill the hero of the grass pixies as Greero tried to kill them in turn. Neither side offered courtesy, and neither side asked, as one side's entire purpose was to destroy their opponent for invading the kingdom of their marker. While the other did not believe his opponents could understand the concept of surrender.

So it was that they traded blows again and again as Red Razor Armory charged at the hero again, being a living battering ram that the grass pixies hero, Greero, knew better than to talk straight on. So he would dodge to the side, but that would cause Red Razor Armory to turn from a battering ram into a gauntlet of blades, as Red Razor Armor would use the red grass blades that made up its body to try and cut him to pieces. Greero blocked all the blade strikes, but blocking a thousand blade strikes each time Red Razor Armory went by was no easy task.

It was also getting more difficult as Red Razor Armory's partner, Hidden Blue Tear, got better at striking at the perfect moment. Hidden blue tears would come out, appearing only for a moment, just for a few strikes of its sharpened spider legs to try and take his head off. The hits missed, but even if they missed, they put him out of position to defend a fresh barrage of sword strikes from Red Razor Armory. This combination of attacks had slowly but surely caused him to accumulate more wounds, causing him to slow down but only slightly.

As a hero, Greero had many abilities that helped him fight in top shape no matter how bad his injuries were. As it was expected of a hero to be effective no matter how badly he was hurt, so his abilities reflect that. It was one of the types of abilities Legotas, the god of legends, made sure all heroes had despite how much they differed from one another. Greero's specific ability was THE GRASS STANDS. This ability kept him standing no matter how bad of a shape he was in, so long as he was still alive, though he had never used it.

"Well, you two have been having quite a lot of fun, haven't you?" Greero said in a teasing tone that would have set any normal opponent on edge, but he was facing lords of the undead grass. So neither took notice nor cared about what he was saying; they just kept trying to kill him. Greero then took a stance, and then all of a sudden he was gone, and behind the red razor armory, having cut all of his red grass blades in half, effectively shedding a large part of the outer layer of red razor armory off.

Hidden blue tears seeing him pause after whatever skill he had used strikes with all eight legs this time, figuring his use of a powerful ability had left him vulnerable for a moment. He was proven wrong, as with another flurry of lightning-fast movement, all eight of the hidden blue tear legs were cut off. Greero looked at his two down opponents and smiled at them.

"You did well, my skilled sparring partners, but you can only hold off a hero like me for so long." Greero said with a smile on his lips, he then turned and began to make his way towards the wall that was protecting Maxwell, intending to bring an end to the adventure at last, but before he could make it but a few feet, he suddenly had to dodge or be run through by Red Razor Armory, who was charging at him full speed once again.

It took Greero a second to get his bearings as his sudden dodge had taken him a fair distance away from the walk he had been walking towards. Then he had to duck suddenly or have his head taken off by hidden blue tears who had eight legs once again and were bringing them to bear against him once more. Greero found himself on the back foot for a few moments before he got his rhythm once again and was able to once again enter into a stalemate with the two undead grass lords.

Greero did not know how the two had healed so quickly but had just guessed it was a powerful healing ability the two had and that he would have to cut them into smaller pieces to truly put them down. Greero did not know what he was truly facing, but he would know soon; he would learn, much to his horror, the true ability of those he faced in the battle's climax to come.
