chapter 72 duel of grass champions part 2

Once again the Lords of Grass undead elementals found themselves defeated. Threatened with the fate of being a mere footnote in an invader's march towards victory. This they could not allow, not when they were so close, not when there was so much on the line. The fate of their kingdom, the history of their people, and the chance to prove their maker right in their creation were moving away from them without a care in the world, as if this battle was at an end and they had nothing more to give.

The intruder was wrong on that, and the lords were eager to prove it, as both of them quickly pulled together lost parts or regrew them. This seemed to happen in an instant, and they were charging at the hero of the grass pixies who had dared turn his back on them. Sadly for them and lucky for him, he was able to sense their attacks and dodge just in time. Though the lords of the undead grass elementals did not let their early miss slow them down, continuing the pressure as they kept him from regaining his balance and rhythm.

Though despite their constant attack not letting up for a moment, the grass pixies hero somehow regained his balance and rhythm. With this regained, he began to counterattack, putting the two sides in a stalemate once more. So on the battle went a clash of the heroes Gratana against the lords red grass blades and hidden insect blades. The surrounding grasslands echoed with the sound of clashing blades as the lords, having already learned how to work in sync, now learned how to better wield their new forms against the hero.

This proved rather dangerous for the Greero. This was because as the battle went on, he slowly began to tire, and the wounds he had taken began to affect him more and more. This warped his opponents ability to become stronger as their twin undead and elemental natures prevented them from feeling the effects of their stalemated battle.

Though that wasn't to say there wasn't a time limit for the lords, as they had decreed to themselves that the hero would die by their hands. Which, if that was to be the case, they needed to defeat the grass pixies hero soon or they would be made liars. As the lords could see the elite being pulled together by their makers necrotic smog and could tell from the level parts currently making their parts that it would not be too long before the elites rejoined in the fight.

This would take away the glory of their victory as well as once again prove that they needed the help of other units to do their duty. Which could not be allowed to happen, and so the lords became more frenzied, pressing the grass pixie harder than ever before to the point of recklessness. Usually the grass pixie hero Greero would have used such reckless charging to his advantage, but his wounds made it difficult for him to capitalize on his opponent's recklessness.

So it was that Greero found himself being pushed back for the first time in a long time. Greero was feeling the tide turn against him, and his defeat looked like a possibility. "Well, I've got to say you've both proven quite the opponents. So I'll have quite the story to tell." Greero said in the same teasing tone as earlier, causing the lords to push even harder, finding his tone insulting and wanting to destroy him even faster.

Though before they could break his guard completely and dig into him with their sharp red grass blades and insect legs, he disappeared. Greero activated his sword hero ability when using his Gratana the GRASS STORM BLADE. It affected them, made readily apparent as he appeared and disappeared, cutting into both Lords. Red Razor Armory tried to block with his thousands of red grass blades, and the hidden blue tear blended, causing it to disappear among its surroundings.

Sadly for both of them, their attempts failed. The red razor armor's thousands of red grass blades that made up a good portion of its body were unable to block, and the hidden blue tear kept getting cut despite being hidden. The hero Greero's skill caused him to move rapidly in a circular loop, cutting anything within the circle. It was as if he was a land-based storm the two lords were cut up in.

Though the odds did not look good as the sword hero danced around them, cutting into them as he did so. The two lords never stopped fighting as the red razor kept charging its red grass blades, trying to hit no matter how many times they were cut off or missed. While the hidden blue tear tried to find a place within the storm of the intruder's blade that it could hide, it was still striking at him.

This went on for a while, the two lords being literally whittled down bit by bit, but the hero, by the use of his hero sword, killed. They kept trying to come up with a way to turn the tide while not finding any. Then both saw that the elites were nearly done, and in a minute or two at most, the elite would be done, being fully repaired. Which would allow them to come to the lord's aid and finally defeat the hero once and for all.

Seeing that they would have to finish this fight now or lose their chance to prove themselves to their marker, the lords acted at once. Though subconsciously they pulled from what they were bringing forth, which made them truly dangerous, as they were elementals of the undead grass. They separately represented the rage and the misery of dead grasslands. Greero would find out the true danger of this far too late.

As Greero used his skill cutting in his circular pattern, he thought to himself how he would tell this adventure of his. Especially this part: the climatic battle of him beating the final defenders before destroying the source of the evil within the land. He was quickly broken out of such thoughts as red grass blades appeared all around him, trying to run him through from beneath him.

Greero moved quickly, bobbing and weaving as he used his skill to move around the red grass blades appearing out of the ground. Just as he thought he got a handle on the situation, once again he ran straight into droopy green grass that had been invisible to him. The grass boiled as it touched him, showing it was made out of some liquid acid-like substance despite being somewhat solid.

Greero had only a moment to examine this strange acid grass before he had to get moving once again as the red grass spikes started shooting up at him again in such a way that it felt like they were chasing him. It took him a little bit to figure out, but eventually Greero did, and he came to a rather bad conclusion. They were chasing him as his two opponents were changing the field.

The Lords, being elementals, had used their authority as lords of the undead grass elementals to raise grasslands of both rage and misery. This put Greero on the back foot as he had to stop his own skill to not be skewered by red grass spikes coming out of the ground. So it was not in a game of chase as the Lords pursued him while changing the field beneath him. This went on for a while until eventually, once again, Greero got a feel for the terrain changes his opponents were capable of and charged at them.

Greero felt he needed to end this, as the elites were now fully repaired and coming for him. Though this was to be his undoing, as he had not considered just as he had been studying his opponents, so had they been studying him. They just hadn't been showing it, and so just as he was charging, Greero was tripped by a red grass spike that hadn't been raised fully. Before he could react, the lords were upon him, turning him into a bloody chunk in their favor.

Once the lords were done, it was sure to all that the hero Greero was very dead. They all turned towards Maxwell, waiting for him to once again turn his attention towards them once he was done with his holy work. They did so in silence, all blissfully unaware of the noise and podium they had in the pantheon for being the first monster in a very long time to slay a hero.
