3.12. Desert Nights

The Inquisition was walking all night, but that did not help them with their currently most pressing concern. Before they could arrive at the sacret gates they hoped for, the first rays of sunlight greeted them in the middle of nowhere.

Now, many would not consider it a disaster, but the fear every one of them held for the sunlight was not without reason. Even as this ray of doom caressed their leaders' skin, he felt himself dry out, nothing capable of stopping the radiance from piercing through him like an angels spear.

In a panic, he organised everyone into a spell circle, utilizing his aura of royalty to gather everyones mana and channel it between them.

For this, he chose restful petrification and activated it for everyone bound to him, the skill working tirelessly and through every connection he had with them to slowly turn everyone around him into statues.

Most happily obliged, only Paladin rejected the Idea of stopping what he considered his eternal vigil.

The day was a bright one, but under his permanent guidance, it passed rather fast.

As Paladin waited for something to happen, he looked like a statue aswell, causing everything passing by them to completely ignore their presence.

He saw many a creature, and although most of them were scorpions or snakes, one beast had struck him with reverie.

It was just when a caravan ca e close to them, that the sand began to vibrate. Obvious wave like patterns sprawling over the nearby desert as a pit formed beneath the strange group, and they were swallowed into the sandy depths within seconds. A gigantic maw closed itself after that and sprayed the consumed sand above it again, recreating its perfect disguise.

Paladin sighed, remembering to warn the Prophet of the strange beasts as he waited.

"Why is he still taking those cursed sceptics with him? They would be the perfect supply of golems, but sometimes I think he actually listens to them. Doesn't he know that they don't worship him as everyone should? If they continue like that, I will one dayslice them open. Everyone works for the greater good, the priests try to imitate his overwhelming magic, the Inquisitors do their best to learn from me, infusing their blades with our sacret essence. Even the weakest among us do their best to take the lighter burdens of him, but he still accepts those who vehemently block his way. And then... there are those thieves. They always accompany him, without doing anything. I think they are planning to steal from him, or kill him when he least expects it. No, we need to organise this group into a proper inquisition. Our leader is too busy managing other people, so I must take on the burden of guiding everyone else."

Thus, he began to plan. Nobody would see his plans for a while as he worked on them tirelessly, but as the sun sunk again, he went to the spot right next to his liege and waited for his awakening

Soon, the stone melted from his allies bodies and the Larv began marching again.

"My lord, there is a monster up ahead, I recommend we evade it."

He said, describing the mawed canyon he had seen the night before. But where he was prepared to walk around the beast, his lieges eyes began to sparkle.

"Finally, I was just beginning to wonder when I would have my next proper fight."

He stormed off, everyone else waiting as a stunned silence spread across the masses.

Jeolas knew it wasn't the smartest move to charge headfirst at something that was probably many times his size, but as someone that always loved games were he was allowed to slay giants, he could not let that opportunity slip by.

"I should finally invest these points into something... let's put all twenty five in intuition."

Immediately, he had a very bad feeling about that descision.

"Nope, we can't fight that... this beast shall be considered a possible defensive line or high class military asset. When even my Intuition tells me not to do something, I guess I should listen to it."

And thus, they marched around. Everyone in possession of a map marking the creature with a quick S as even their honoured leader seemed hesitant to fight the creature. Something none of them had ever witnessed before.
